Ewald von Kleist
One year after the death of Ewald Christian von Kleist , a complete edition of his works is published for the first time in Berlin. The editor of the two-volume work is a longtime friend of Kleist, the poet and philosopher Karl Wilhelm Ramler .

Scientific works
The French dancer and choreographer Jean Georges Noverre wrote the theoretical treatise Lettres sur la Danse et sur les Ballets ( Letters on the Art of Dance ), one of the most important works on ballet to this day .
- Johann Joachim Winckelmann publishes the work Description des pierres gravées de feu Baron de Stosch in Florence on the collection of antique gems and gem impressions of Philipp von Stosch, who died in 1757 . In it he describes numerous Etruscan works of art such as the Stosch stone and the Etruscan scarab with Tydeus .
- The Swiss physician Samuel-Auguste Tissot published the work L'Onanisme in which he postulated that masturbation leads to diseases. The work went through numerous editions and translations.
