The Livigno Alps are a mountain group in the central Eastern Alps , which stretches from the Engadin in eastern Switzerland to the west of South Tyrol in northern Italy around the Italian municipality of Livigno . Parts of the mountain range are protected in the Stilfserjoch National Park and in the Swiss National Park .
Boundary and neighboring mountain groups
The Livigno Alps are assigned to the Rhaetian Alps .
The group is limited as follows:
- in the southeast the upper Addatal (Veltlin) from Bormio to Tirano to the Sobretta-Gavia group
- separated from the Bernina group in the southwest by the Bernina Pass (Tirano im Veltlin - Val di Poschiavo (Puschlav) - Berninabach - Samedan im Engadin line)
- in the northwest the upper Engadine (Samedan - Zernez ) separates the area from the Albula Alps
- in the northeast form the border to the Sesvenna group and the Ortler Alps
- according to the Alpine Association of the Eastern Alps (AVE), the line Zernez - lower Val da Spöl to the confluence of Ova dal Fuorn with Sesvenna, Punt dal Gall and from there Valle del Gallo (eastern arm of Lake Livigno ) - Passo di Fraele - Valle di Fraele - Bormio in Valtellina to the Ortler Alps
- In Switzerland, the Zernez - Ofenpass - Val Müstair (Münstertal) to the Sesvenna group and Stilfser Joch to the Ortler massif apply
Due to the inconsistent demarcation, the headwaters of the Adda (Valle di Fraele, Lago di San Giacomo and Lago di Cancano ) as well as the Val Mora and the Umbrail group become partly the Livigno, partly the Ortler, partly the Sesvenna group, in Switzerland the Bündner Allocated to the Alps .
