The defining word of the place name is the Middle High German word "lō" (= tree bark). A tan mill is used to crush the vegetable tanning agents required for tannery .
Towards the end of the 18th century, the Lohmühle belonged to Langenzenn. The mill had the Brandenburg-ansbachische Box Office Cadolzburg as a landlord . Under the Prussian administration (1792-1806) of the Principality of Ansbach, the Lohmühle was given house number 130 in the village of Langenzenn.
As part of the community edict, Lohmühle was assigned to the Langenzenn tax district, which was formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the municipality of Langenzenn, which was formed in the same year.
