Lutz Niemann (General)

Lutz Erich Niemann (born March 8, 1957 in Wolfenbüttel ) is a Brigadier General of the Army of the German Armed Forces and since April 7, 2016 commander of the pioneers training center and general of the pioneer troops .

Military career

Training and first uses

Lutz Erich Niemann joined the German Armed Forces in the 4th Company of the 210 Heavy Pioneer Battalion in Munich on July 1, 1975 after graduating from high school . On April 1, 1977 he began studying pedagogy at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich in Neubiberg , and on October 1 of the same year he was appointed lieutenant . He successfully completed his studies as a qualified pedagogue in December 1979.

After completing his academic training, Niemann was transferred to the Mountain Pioneer Battalion 8 in Brannenburg on January 1, 1980 , where he held various posts, including as a company commander . During his time in Brannenburg he was promoted to first lieutenant on April 9, 1980 and to captain on October 4, 1984 . On October 1, 1986, he was transferred back to Munich and became a full-time youth officer at Military District Command VI .

General staff training and service as a staff officer

From September 23, 1988 to September 26, 1990, Niemann completed the 31st general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . After this course he was transferred to Bonn to join the armed forces command staff as the personal staff officer of Staff Department Head I (internal leadership, personnel, training) . A few days after taking over the post, on October 1, 1990, Niemann was appointed major . Just two years later, he moved as a G3 staff officer to the German part of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) of NATO in Casteau near Mons in Belgium . During this time, Niemann was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 1, 1993 . On October 10, 1994, he returned to Germany and was transferred to the 19 Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Ahlen / Westphalia , also as a G3 staff officer . This was followed by another assignment as a G3 staff officer on October 1, 1996, but this time at the Army Office in Cologne .

After these staff assignments, Niemann was given a troop command and on November 24, 1997 took over as commander of the 140 heavy engineer battalion in Emmerich am Rhein . Subsequently, he returned to Hardthöhe in Bonn on May 3, 2000 and was reassigned as a G3 staff officer to the command staff of the armed forces in Staff Department V (Operation Bundeswehr), today's operations command staff, in Section 3. On April 1, 2003, he took over the post of Head of Personnel (J1) at the Bundeswehr Operations Command in Potsdam .

After only five months, however, Niemann was transferred again on September 1, 2003 and took over from Erhard Bühler the post of adjutant to the Federal Minister of Defense. In this position he served first under Peter Struck (SPD) and finally under Franz Josef Jung (CDU). Associated with this transfer was the appointment as colonel . Until 2006, Niemann was part of the management team in the ministry together with the minister, the civil servants and parliamentary state secretaries , the inspector general of the Bundeswehr , Wolfgang Schneiderhan , and was thus involved in the further development and implementation of the transformation process of the Bundeswehr from the structures of the Cold War to a " Army in action "involved. In February 2006, he handed over the post of adjutant to Peter Braunstein .

General uses

Niemann himself took his second command troops on 20 February 2006, when he spoke of Erhard Buhler , the Armored Brigade 12 took over in Amberg. In this role, he was appointed Brigadier General on December 1, 2006. On July 16, 2009, Niemann finally handed over command of the brigade to his successor Michael Uhrig.

Niemann was then transferred to the Army Command in preparation for his future use for language training . On September 21, 2009 he took over the post of Deputy Chief of Staff Training & Resources at the Eurocorps in Strasbourg under the command of Hans-Lothar Domröse . From January 1, 2013 to January 25, 2016, Niemann was Chief of Staff of the Multinational Corps North-East .

Since April 7, 2016, Niemann has been the commander of the pioneers training center and general of the pioneer troops . Associated with this is the performance of the tasks of Senior Joint Engineer Bundeswehr and Chairman Steering Committee Military Engineering Center of Excellence of NATO .

Niemann is married and has two children. In his spare time he devotes himself to endurance sports, skiing and hunting.
