Māris Jass (born January 18, 1985 in Daugavpils , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Orli Znojmo in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since November 2014 . His brother Koba is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Māris Jass began his ice hockey career in his Latvian homeland with the Stalkers / Juniors Daugavpils . At the beginning of the 2001/2002 season he moved to HK Dynamo Moscow , for whose second team he was active from 2001 to 2003 in the third-class Pervaya League . From 2003 to 2006 the defender played for the Latvian club HK Liepājas Metalurgs . In the 2003/2004 season, he took part in the East European Hockey League in parallel with the game in the Latvian ice hockey league. In the following two seasons, the club played in addition to the Latvian league in the Belarusian extra league. In the 2005/2006 season, the defender also played a few games for the Russian club HK Lada Tolyatti , which played in the international hockey league. The following season Jass demonstrated his skills in the Czech extra league at HC Slavia Prague. The next stop in his playing career was in the 2007/2008 season with the Slovak club HK Ardo Nitra, who played in the Extraliga. The defender spent the 2008/2009 season again at the Latvian club HK Liepājas Metalurgs. There he was used for games in the Belarusian extra league. In the following season, the left shooter returned to his old place of work in Slovakia. For the 2010/2011 season he moved within the Slovakian extra league to HK 36 Skalica. In November 2010, Jass was given the opportunity to play for Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk in the KHL. For the 2011/12 season, the defender returned to the Slovak extra league. This time he ran for HC Slovan Bratislava , with whom the season ended as champions. After various positions in Russian and Eastern European ice hockey leagues, Jass received his first contract in the DEL with the Hannover Scorpions for the 2012/13 season . In the 2013/14 season he played in three different European leagues and therefore only made relatively few appearances. He was transferred to Buran Voronezh in the summer of 2013 , where he made ten official league appearances and two assists. On January 11, 2014 the move to the Italian club HC Valpellice was announced; here the Latvian was only used in three league games. At the end of the month there was another change from Jass, who moved to Piráti Chomutov in the Czech extra league. Exactly eight months after he moved to the Czech Republic, he moved to the neighboring country, Slovakia, where he was hired by HK Nitra . This commitment did not last too long either; in early November 2014 he signed Māris Jass a contract with the Austrian first division club , the Czech team Orli Znojmo , where he received a trial contract until the end of the year.
