Maider Unda Gonzalez de Audikana
Maider Unda Gonzalez de Audikana (born July 2, 1977 in Vitoria-Gasteiz ) is a Spanish wrestler . She has won three medals at world and European championships so far.
Career
Maider Unda Gonzalez de Audikana is Baskin . She started sambo as a teenager in Otxandio at the age of 9 . She only switched to wrestling in 1998 at the age of 21. She became a member of the wrestling club Escuela Alavesa de Lucha Vitoria . Luis Crespa has been her trainer since 1998. The 1.77 meter tall athlete was thrown back several times in her athletic development due to serious injuries (in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2011). Nevertheless, she stayed with wrestling and developed through an enormous amount of diligence in training that she was even able to become a medalist at world and European champions. Maider, who had trained as an electrician, now lives in Olaeta near Aramaiona and raises livestock, especially sheep. She specialized in the production of cheese.
Between 2000 and 2012, she won the Spanish women's championship title twelve times. Only in 2011 did she not become Spanish champion because she was unable to start at this championship that year due to an injury.
She started her international career at the World Cup in Sofia . She took 12th place in the weight class up to 75 kg. At the 2001 European Championships in Budapest , she landed her first victory in an international championship in the weight class up to 68 kg. She won over the Turkish Najla Salihoglu on points. In the same year she won a bronze medal in the same weight class at the Mediterranean Games in Tunis behind Lise Legrand , France and Yousia Magdy from Egypt .
In the following years Maider Unda Gonzalez de Audikana started regularly at the World and European Championships. The best placement that she initially achieved was a 5th place at the European Championships in 2002 in Seinäjoki / Finland. Was there u. a. also the German Nina Englich on points. She did not qualify for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In 2007 she reached an excellent 5th place at the World Championships in Baku in the weight class up to 72 kg and only narrowly lost to the Russian Gousel Manjurowa in the battle for a bronze medal . With 5th place, however, she won the right to start at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .
In Beijing she was able to convince and won there over Oksana Waschtschuk from Ukraine and Ohenewa Akuffo from Canada . She lost to Stanka Slatewa from Bulgaria and Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus from Poland , but took a very good 5th place.
In 2009 Maider succeeded in winning the first medal at an international championship at the world championship in Herning / Denmark . She defeated Jelena Perepelkina from Russia, Jenny Fransson from Sweden and Marina Gastl from Austria . At the 2010 European Championships in Baku, she won a bronze medal at the EC with victories over Maria Louisa Vryoni from Greece , Darija Iwanowa from Azerbaijan and Marina Gastl. At the 2010 World Championships in Moscow , she just missed the medal ranks with a 5th place. She just lost the fight for one of the two bronze medals against multiple world champion Kyoko Hamaguchi from Japan.
Maider Unda Gonzalez de Audikana then won another medal at the 2012 European Championships in Belgrade . She came there with victories over Cynthia Vanessa Vescan from France , Wassilissa Marsaljuk from Belarus and Natalja Palamarchuk from Azerbaijan in a defeat against Maja Gunvor Erlandsen from Norway on the 3rd place. For participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, she was only able to qualify in the third tournament in Helsinki, which she won ahead of Cynthia Vanessa Vescan from France. In London, however, she was in excellent shape and came in third place with victories over Ana Talia Betancourt, Colombia and Otschirbatyn Burmaa , Mongolia, a defeat against Stanka Slatewa Christowa and a victory over Wassilissa Marsaljuk, Belarus, and thus won an Olympic bronze medal.
