Marek Leśniewski
Marek Leśniewski (born April 24, 1963 in Bydgoszcz ) is a former Polish cyclist and national champion in cycling .
Athletic career
Marek Leśniewski won the Dookola Mazowska Tour in 1983, which was his first major success. A year later he won two stages and the points classification at the domestic Tour of Poland . In 1985 he won the Tour of Poland in two stages and again won the points classification. In 1987 he lost to Zbigniew Piątek in the domestic tour by just 7 seconds. At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , he won the silver medal in the team time trial together with Andrzej Sypytkowski , Zenon Jaskuła and Joachim Halupczok . He was also a participant in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , where he also competed in the team time trial and finished 6th. He started eight times at the UCI Road World Championships . In 1999 he was able to win silver on the road with the Polish foursome with Halupczok, Jaskuła and Sypytkowski. In 1993 he finished 6th in the amateurs' individual race . In 1991 and 1993 he was Polish road racing champion . In 1991 he also won the championship in the individual time trial .
During his career he competed in a large number of stage races in Europe and was able to win several sections of the day. He took part twice in the International Peace Tour, in 1985 he was 30th and in 1989 55th in the overall ranking. In 1994 he was a professional driver in French teams for four years . He drove the Tour de France in 1996 , but retired. Until 2003 he competed in races for French clubs and occasionally competed in his home country.
