Martin Réway (born January 24, 1995 in Prague ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who also has Czech citizenship.

Career

Martin Réway comes from the youth team of HC Slavia Prague . However, he moved to Slovakia with his family at an early age and played there first for the U18 team of the second-class MHK Dolný Kubín , before moving to the youth department of the MHC Martin in 2010 . He then returned to the Czech Republic and scored 60 points in 25 games in the 2011/12 season for the HC Sparta Prague U18 team . The winger was then selected in the second round of the KHL Junior Draft 2012 by HC Slovan Bratislava .

For the 2012/13 season , however, Réway decided to move to the Olympiques de Gatineau from the Canadian Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , who had previously selected him in fourth overall position in the CHL Import Draft . In his rookie season , the Slovak topped the mark of one point per game and was the third best rookie scorer in the league with 22 goals. In the NHL Entry Draft 2013 he was then selected in the fourth round at a total of 116th position by the Canadiens de Montréal and was used for the first time in a preparatory game against the Buffalo Sabers for the Canadiens before the start of the 2013/14 season .

In the following season , Réway was able to increase his offensive statistics again and was second-best scorer of the Olympiques behind his strike partner Émile Poirier . In the play-offs he drew attention to himself with eleven points from four games in the first round series against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles , but lost with the team in the following round to the defending champion Halifax Mooseheads .

In June 2014 he ended his engagement in Canada and returned to HC Sparta Prague. There he was suspended in October 2015 after collecting 15 scorer points in 14 games at the beginning of the season and as a result was suspended for almost a month. The cause was a dispute about his time with the head coach. He then joined the HC Friborg-Gottéron from the Swiss National League A (NLA) until the end of the season . He finished the season in the NLA with 21 points from 19 games.

In May 2016, Réway signed a three-year entry contract with the Canadiens de Montréal, who drafted him in 2013. As a result, however, the attacker had to sit out the entire 2016/17 season due to a heart disease and only played his first competitive game in the organization of the Canadiens in October 2017 for the Rocket de Laval . A little later, his contract in Montréal was dissolved by mutual agreement, with Réway aiming to return to Europe. A few days later he was taken under contract by HC Slovan Bratislava from the Continental Hockey League , but could not prevail there either. In summer 2018 he completed a try-out at Mountfield HK from the Czech extra league , where he was not given a contract due to lack of fitness and deficiencies in terms of recruitment. Therefore, he first played for the third-rate HK Dolný Kubín in Slovakia.

International

Martin Réway represented Slovakia for the first time at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2011 and was the youngest player on his team there at the age of 15. The following year he helped Slovakia to move up to the top division at the U18 Junior World Championship in Division I. He finished second behind Marko Daňo with eleven points from five games in the tournament's scorer rating . After being on the ice in the 2013 U20 selection for Slovakia, Réway was his team's top scorer with ten points at the 2014 U20 World Junior Championship .

A few months later he made his debut for the men's selection of Slovakia at the World Cup . At the U20 Junior World Championship in 2015 , he led the U20 national team as captain on the ice, collected nine points as the top scorer of his team and won the bronze medal.
