Martin Friedrich Wilhelm Sinemus (born March 26, 1881 in Andernach , † October 3, 1964 in Heusweiler ) was a German pastor and historian .

Life

Martin Sinemus was born as the sixth of fourteen children in March 1881 in Andernach on the lower Middle Rhine and was baptized Protestant on April 21, 1881 . His father Georg Karl Christian Sinemus (1843–1927) had been pastor in Andernach since 1872 and in 1872 married Wilhelmine Prümers (1851–1929). On February 13, 1904, he finished attending the Andernach high school with the Abitur . In the same year he started at the University in Greifswald with the study of Protestant theology . In 1905 he attended the university in Bonn , in 1906 he moved to the university in Halle / Saale , and then returned to Bonn in the winter of 1906/07. Sinemus financed his studies by working as a private tutor in Schwelm (1907) and Kleinhelmsdorf (1908). On April 28, 1908, Sinemus passed the first theological exam (examen pro licentia concionandi) before the consistory of the Rhine Province in Coblenz (today Koblenz). He then completed his vicariate in Speldorf , on April 20, 1910, he passed his second theological examination (examen pro ministerio) in Coblenz. Sinemus remained with the community in Speldorf until he began his military service in Mülheim an der Ruhr . He then went to Barmen as an assistant preacher in 1911 , where the ordination of Sinemus was held on June 18, 1911 by Superintendent Bausch . Between 1912 and 1913 he worked in the auxiliary service in Sterkrade .

In 1913 Sinemus succeeded Friedrich Becker in Cleinich (today Kleinich), who had been pastor in the Hunsrück community for 15 years. There he was mainly active in youth work. At the beginning of the First World War , Sinemus, whose attitude is described as "national Protestant", volunteered as a soldier and worked as a paramedic and military chaplain in Traben-Trarbach and Ahrweiler . Subsequently, Sinemus worked as a hospital pastor in Trier , Engers and Neuwied . In 1917 he went to Bulgaria as a field preacher , later to Macedonia and the Western Front . In 1918 Sinemus was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Cross of Merit for War Aid, in 1935 he was awarded the Cross of Honor for Frontline Fighters and three years later the Hungarian World War II Commemorative Medal. Since 1914, his now over 70-year-old father, Karl Sinemus, had taken over the representation of his son as Kleinich parish priest, for which he was also awarded the Cross of Merit for War Aid. In 1919, Martin Sinemus initiated the erection of a war memorial in the cemetery in Kleinich. After his return to the Hunsrück he researched the history of the Kleinich parish , and in 1925 his first of a total of over 50 publications was published. In 1925 Martin Sinemus went to Hamm an der Sieg, where he held the pastoral office until 1928 , when he moved to the Saar area, which was under the administration of the League of Nations . In choosing arbitration , the pastor took his last pastorate, 1942 he was at the age of 61 years emeritus . After the death of his wife Elisabeth, born Kruse (1882–1955), whom he married on July 18, 1911, Sinemus withdrew. To a complaint from the church leadership in Düsseldorf that he would no longer take part in parish life, the pastor emeritus responded in 1960 with the words: "Even a retired miner no longer drives into the pit." Sinemus lived until his death in October 1964 in Heusweiler , a neighboring community of electoral arbitration. He had three daughters and three sons and died at the age of 83.
