Publication and promotion

My World was first published on May 4, 2012 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The maxi single is available as a download and a physical sound carrier. The physical maxi single was released as a 2-track single and includes the single version of Meine Welt, the English-language song Give Us What We Need (Truth Is Not the Key) as the B-side . The song is available digitally as a single download or as an EP . In addition to the two pieces from the physical sound carrier, the EP includes an additional children's version and two remixes of Meine Welt . The remixes are from Mike Candys and Jean F. Cochois. In addition to the single version, a piano version of Meine Welt was also released as a single download in the course of the year .

The first promotion for Meine Welt took place on April 12, 2012 via Facebook by uploading a short audio sample of the song. A day later, some screenshots of the music video were presented. On April 17, 2012, there was a live performance on the Harald Schmidt Show ; Here Heppner played a piano version of the song together with Dirk Riegner. The last major advertising campaign was an advertising trailer for the RTL II soap opera Berlin - Day & Night . In this, Meine Welt accompanied a commercial in which the actress Pia Tillmann could be seen in her role as "Meike", who was supposed to promote the format.

content

The lyrics to Meine Welt are written in German. The music was written by Peter Heppner, Lothar Manteuffel and Dirk Riegner, the text specially written by Heppner. Musically, the song moves in the field of synth pop . The tempo is 160 beats per minute . The song begins with the first verse. There is a short pause between the first and second stanza, during which Heppner only repeats the statement "My world". After the second stanza, the refrain occurs for the first time . After this there is a bridge before the song ends with the new chorus. The stanzas and the refrain each consist of four lines. Boris Matchin on cello and Stefan Pintev and Rodrigo Reichel on viola and violin can be heard as additional instrumentalists .

In an interview, Heppner expressed himself critically about the culture of protest that had been lost from his point of view and pleaded for people to do more for their dreams and visions again. He takes up the problem in terms of content in My World . One should never lose sight of one's dreams or visions, even if they cannot be realized in the foreseeable future. Even if a wish or a goal seems so “ naive ” in the first sense (such as world peace , for example ), one should still stick to it.

“And love, it turns red;
and hatred black as death.
I do it the way I like it,
because I ... my world. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

In addition to the single version, a children's version of Meine Welt was created at the same time . About the creation, Heppner said in an interview that he was asked by the two children (Carla and Jule) from his close circle of friends whether they could sing the song sometimes; and he thought that was a "very good idea". Both sides would have enjoyed the recording. It was not the first time that he worked with children. Heppner was already working with a children's choir for Wir sind wir from 2004, but here he was much closer to the two. Heppner knew the two children beforehand. The recordings were made with him and that was "just great fun". In this children's version, Carla and Jule swap roles with Heppner, so that they are responsible for the main vocals and Heppner and the singer Katrin Sommer can only be heard in the background.

Music video

The music video for Meine Welt celebrates its premiere on April 20, 2012, on Heppner's homepage and MyVideo . You can see a short cartoon with a little cartoon man who travels through a world and is equipped with paint and a brush with which he draws new things in the world or simply paints things in bright colors. At the beginning of the video the little man can be seen in an empty gray room, which is only equipped with a switched off light bulb , and begins to draw something and plunges into the drawn world. After a trip through the newly designed world (which corresponds to the lyrics of the song), the little man can be seen again in the exit room towards the end of the video, which is colorfully placarded with pictures and posters and the light bulb shines. Occasionally, short real images of Heppner can be seen on posters or large canvases. The total length of the video is 3:26 minutes. As with Glasgarten , Ulrike Rank again directed.

Reviews

The German-language online magazine laut.de rated the overall product My Heart of Stone with 3/5 stars. During his review, Kai Butterweck came to the conclusion that the “thoughtful” piece Meine Welt would rather make “fighters and hope hearts” beat rather than provide a platform for deeply sad feelings.

Andreas Schulz from musikreviews.de awarded 13 out of 15 points for My Heart of Stone . It occurred to Schulz that some people couldn't really make friends with my world . A "childishly naive" text, "simple" dadadam dadadam "vocal passages" and "dramatic" strings towards the end. The piece is "kitschy", but also "soooo beautiful" - precisely because it is as naive as it is. The children's version is then already too much “icing”, but still coherent in itself.

The German-language e-zine Plattentests.de rated My Heart of Stone with seven out of ten points. Oliver Ding from the online editorial team is of the opinion that Heppner can be “naturally” attacked on the album by pieces like Meine Welt , when he paints naive pictures and tells of a world made out of children's eyes. But before the mockery could become spiteful, he opposed a defiant "And I can still dream!" And garnishes the excellent synthetic with lots of "Dadadamms". That's because pop works through the ear and not through the brain. Ding highlighted Meine Welt as one of four "highlights" on the album.
