The Melvillesund ( English Melville Sound ) is a strait of the Coronation Gulf in the Canadian territory of Nunavut . It separates the Kent Peninsula in the north from the North American mainland in the south. Parry Bay is north of Melvillesund, enclosed by the Kent Peninsula . In the east the Melvillesund merges into the Elu Inlet . To the west the strait opens to Bathurst Inlet , a bay of the Coronation Gulf.
