Meta , also known colloquially as Meta di Sorrento , is a city with 7953 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian metropolitan city of Naples , in the Campania region . The neighboring towns are Piano di Sorrento and Vico Equense .

Between 1991 and 2001 the population rose from 7392 to 7696. This corresponds to a percentage increase of 4.1%.
people
Meta is the hometown of Captain Francesco Schettino , under whose command the cruise ship Costa Concordia sank, killing 32 people. The Catholic missionary and Archbishop Gaetano Pollio (1911–1991) was born in Meta.
