Bullet for My Valentine (often abbreviated as BFMV ) is a Founded in 1998, British Metal band from the Welsh Bridgend that can celebrate since 2006 worldwide commercial success. The band has sold more than three million records worldwide.

history

Beginnings (1998-2005)

The band was founded in 1998 under the name Jeff Killed John as a Nirvana and Metallica association. In 2002 they were accepted into the Welsh band promotion project Pynci, through which they released a Greg Haver-produced 2-song EP ( You / Play with me ) on which they played Nu Metal - which was also played on local radio stations. The day before the recordings for the next EP, bassist Nick Crandle left the band, who soon found a replacement in Jason James, who also took on the role of shouter . After the band changed their name several times, each for a short time - including 12 Pints ​​of My Girlfriend's Blood and Opportunity in Chicago - they finally adopted the current name Bullet for My Valentine .

After a showcase in London in 2004, several record companies wanted to sign the band, including Roadrunner Records . Bullet for My Valentine are currently under contract with Sony BMG (Europe), Visible Noise in the UK and Trustkill Records in the US .

On November 15, 2004, the band released their EP of the same name , which stayed in the German single charts for nine weeks and also sold well in the rest of Europe. As single was Hand of Blood selected. The single 4 Words (To Choke Upon) was published on March 28, 2005 in an edition of only 1000 copies. On August 22, 2005, the Hand of Blood EP was released as a reprint for Europe and the USA, which compared to the self-titled EP contains one more song and a music video.

The Poison (2005-2007)

The debut album The Poison was released in Germany on September 30, 2005 (then also in Great Britain and other European countries) and reached number 25 in Germany. The first single Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow (What Can I Do) was released on September 19, 2005. The following single All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me) was released on February 3, 2006, in the UK three days later. On July 17, 2006, the single Tears Don't Fall was released. In Germany there was a special single EP on Gun Records , which was released almost a month earlier, on June 23rd. In the music video for Tears Don't Fall , the screaming scenes were cut out for better marketing. Meanwhile, The Poison with the Silbernen- and in the United Kingdom United States of America with the gold record awarded.

After the regular release, there are also other versions with bonus songs or live and acoustic versions. The US new release contains five bonus songs and the British four.

In October 2006 a live EP called Hand of Blood EP - Live at Brixton was released . The limited edition is limited to 4,000 copies. But it doesn't differ from the conventional EP, except that the sticker on the cover says "Limited EP". The recordings come from her appearance at the London Club Brixton Academy on January 28, 2006, where several cameras filmed the show in order to later make a live DVD from the material. The Poison - Live at Brixton DVD was released on October 30, 2006, again three days later in Great Britain and the United States.

Scream Aim Fire (2007-2009)

Bullet for My Valentine finished recording their second studio album, Scream Aim Fire , on October 11th, 2007 . It was released on January 25, 2008 in two different versions and on SD card. Colin Richardson, who had also produced The Poison , was again executive producer. The title track Scream Aim Fire , Waking The Demon and Hearts Burst into Fire were released as singles. The video for Waking the Demon was shot in a version with and one without screaming scenes , similar to Tears Don't Fall . In 2008 they went on the “ Taste of Chaos ” tour with Atreyu , D'espairsRay and Blessthefall, among others .

Similar to the previous album The Poison, there is also a deluxe version of the album with a slightly modified cover and four other bonus songs.

Fever (2009-2012)

The band began recording a third studio album in early 2009. According to Tuck, eight songs had already been recorded in November 2009, and their third studio album, Fever , has now been released. The songs from the new album were released on their MySpace page on April 19, 2010.

At the end of March 2009, Bullet for My Valentine left the studio to play six shows, including in Russia and South Africa. After that, they continued recording. It was also announced that three performances by the band, in Düsseldorf, London and California, were filmed.

Temper Temper (2012-2013)

In 2012 the band announced on Facebook and Twitter that they were working on a new album, which should be released in late 2012. The singles Temper Temper and Riot were released in advance. The album is also called Temper Temper and was released in Germany on February 8, 2013.

Venom (2013-2017)

On November 19, 2013, a new song called Raising Hell was presented on BBC Radio 1 , with which the band musically approaches their previous albums again.

On January 6, 2014, Tuck tweeted that the band had started recording their next studio album.

On their website, the band announced on February 9, 2015 that Jason James had split from the band. On May 11, 2015, the band announced via Facebook that they would present a new song called No Way Out on BBC Radio 1 on May 17, 2015 . On May 18, 2015, she published this song on YouTube and released it for download shortly afterwards. The album title for the fifth album with Venom was also officially announced. August 14, 2015 was chosen as the publication date. In addition, a successor for James was found with Jamie Mathias, who previously played at Revoker. On June 24, 2015, the band released a second single called You Want a Battle? (Here's a War) from the upcoming album Venom . The third single Army of Noise was released on July 17, 2015. On August 10, 2015, the title Playing God was released , which is a bonus track on the deluxe version of Venom . The song Worthless was released on August 13, 2015 . On August 14, 2015, Venom was released worldwide. On February 1, 2016, the band announced that drummer Michael Thomas would take Thomas off for a few months to help his wife during pregnancy. Jason Bowld, drummer for AxeWound, will replace him. From October 22, 2016 to November 1, 2016, some teasers were published on the band's official Facebook page. On November 7, 2016, the new single Don't Need You was released.

On December 4, 2017, the band announced that they had separated from drummer and founding member Michael Thomas. At the same time they announced Jason Bowld as the official successor.

Gravity (2018-present)

On March 29, 2018, a teaser was posted on the band's official Twitter page. On April 1, 2018, the new single "Over It" was presented on BBC Radio 1 . The album title for the sixth album with Gravity was also officially announced. On April 27, 2018, the second single from the new album, "Piece of Me", was released. On May 18, 2018, the third single from the new album, "Letting You Go" was released. The album was released on June 29, 2018.

On October 12, 2018, the band announced a deluxe edition of Gravity, which will also be released in 2018. On October 15, 2018, the band released a music video for Not Dead Yet .

Music genre

Bullet for My Valentines music style can primarily be assigned to metalcore. The band uses elements typical of the genre, such as deep guitar riffs , fast playing of the bass drum or double bass and tempo changes in the rhythm of the music. However, there are some differences to the genre. For example, compared to other metalcore bands, you can hear much more clear vocals from the singer Matthew Tuck and the band sees its roots in heavy metal. Since the album Fever , the band has resorted more to hard rock influences and thus differentiates itself more from classic metalcore, which has met with dissatisfaction with some critics and fans, as the band seems more suitable for the masses. These features make it difficult to fully assign the band to a genre. Tuck names Metallica and Iron Maiden as their main influences on their music. Some ballads can be heard on the album The Poison .
