Career
Mike Eastwood first played for the Nepean Raiders before the striker moved to the Pembroke Lumber Kings in the 1986 calendar year within the Central Junior A Hockey League , a lower class Canadian junior league . During this time, the Toronto Maple Leafs secured the NHL rights to the offensive player when they selected the attacker in the fifth round at a total of 91st position in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft . For the 1987/88 season he began studying at Western Michigan University and went on the ice for their ice hockey team, the so-called Broncos , in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . After a rookie season with 13 points scorer in 42 games, the center forward managed to significantly increase his points yield in each of the three following seasons. So Eastwood ended the 1990/91 season with a record of 29 goals and 32 assists , for which the Canadian was rewarded with a nomination for the CCHA's Second All-Star Team . With 61 points he was the Broncos with the best points and finished seventh in the league's internal scorer list.
Relatively early in the 1991/92 season , on November 16, 1991, Eastwood made his debut for the Torontoers in the National Hockey League when the striker ran up in the game against the Chicago Blackhawks . However, he spent most of the season on the farm team with the St. John's Maple Leafs in the American Hockey League , with which the Canadian only failed in the Calder Cup finals at the Adirondack Red Wings . In the following season, Eastwood retained his regular place on the AHL farm team in St. John's. His first NHL goal of the regular season for the Maple Leafs posted the right-shooter on March 27, 1993 against the Edmonton Oilers . During the 1993/94 season, Eastwood finally established itself as a permanent fixture in the Toronto’s NHL squad. In the same season, the striker contributed five points in 18 play-off games to make it into the third round before the team lost to the Vancouver Canucks .
During the 1994/95 NHL season, which was shortened due to a lockout , the Maple Leafs transferred the center together with a third-round vote in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Tie Domi to the Winnipeg Jets in April 1995 . For the Jets, however, the Canadian only ran a little over a year before the franchise was relocated to the US state of Arizona in the summer of 1996 and renamed Phoenix Coyotes . In the spring of 1997, Eastwood continued his career on the east coast, since the Coyotes gave him together with Dallas Eakins in exchange for Jayson More to the New York Rangers . The Canadian also worked for the Blueshirts for around a year before they transferred him to St. Louis as compensation in March 1998 as part of a barter that brought Harry York from the St. Louis Blues to Madison Square Garden .
Eastwood completed in the jersey of the Blues the statistically most successful career stage in the NHL and reached during this time in the 1999/2000 season with a point yield of 19 hits and 15 assists in 79 games of the regular season, his best record. The time of the right-shooter in the jersey of the Blues ended in December 2002 after the Chicago Blackhawks had selected Eastwood, who was on the waiver list . After the end of the 2002/03 season , he signed a contract as a free agent for one season with the Pittsburgh Penguins . The striker then ended his active career.
At the beginning of the 2014/15 season , Eastwood returned to the ice hockey business after a ten-year break as a coach and worked as an assistant for the Ottawa 67’s for three years . He ended his engagement in the summer of 2017 before he became assistant coach for the Hershey Bears in the AHL for the 2018/19 season .
