Mireille Dumont

Marcelle Bouvet , called Mireille Dumont , (born October 14, 1901 in Valréas , † January 18, 1990 in Marseille ) was a French politician. From 1946 to 1955 she was a member of the Conseil de la République , today's Senate .

Dumont was the daughter of a teacher and after studying in Avignon and Marseille pursued the same profession. She took part in demonstrations and militant actions by pacifist and anti-fascist groups. In 1936 she joined the Parti communiste français . Dumont was placed under house arrest during the German occupation, but still participated in the Resistance . After the war ended, she was elected to the Marseille City Council in 1945. In 1946 she moved into the Conseil de la République as the second list of communists in the Bouches-du-Rhône department . She could not be re-elected in 1955 and then ran for the National Assembly three times without success .
