Léon David (politician)

Léon David (born June 19, 1901 in Roquevaire , † August 26, 2000 in Carnoux-en-Provence ) was a French politician. From 1946 to 1978 he was a member of the Conseil de la République and the resulting Senate .

David was, after his older brother in the fifteen to Head of the First World War had fallen. He trained as a blacksmith and took part in pacifist demonstrations after the war. In this way he developed contacts with the Parti communiste français , which he joined in 1925. In 1929 he was arrested for the first time for his political activities. In 1934 he was elected to the council of the Arrondissement of Aix . During the occupation of the Wehrmacht , David was arrested several times and participated in the Resistance on a political level . In 1946 he moved to the Conseil de la République. He was re-elected in 1948 and 1955 and was also an elected member of the Senate from 1959. From 1971 he was also mayor of his hometown Roquevaire, which he remained until 1989. 1978 resigned from his mandate as Senator and was inherited by his party friend Louis Minelli . David died in 2000 at the age of 99.
