Léon Bon

Léon Bon (born July 27, 1875 in Bessèges , Département Gard , † October 20, 1965 ) was a French politician of the SFIO . From 1931 to 1940 he was a member of the Senate .

Bon, who came from the Cevennes , came to Marseille early on , where he later worked as a sales representative. After completing his military service, he joined the socialists in 1897. In the parliamentary elections in 1898 and 1902 he made a name for himself as a successful campaign assistant to Bernard Cadenat . From 1908 to 1912 he sat on the city council of Marseille. In 1919 he returned to the city council and became deputy mayor, which he remained until 1929. From 1924 to 1938 he was a member of the General Council of the Bouches-du-Rhône department . In 1931 he was able to win a seat in the Senate and in 1938 he was re-elected. When the Vichy regime came to power in 1940, Bon was forced to resign from his position as senator. In 1948 he became general secretary of the briefly existing Rassemblement des gauches républicaines . In 1950 he became chairman of the Parti socialiste démocratique . His attempt to be elected to the local council of Jouques failed in 1953.
