Charles Coste (politician)

Charles Coste (born July 24, 1887 in Orgon ; † August 14, 1976 ibid) was a French politician. From 1946 to 1948 he was a member of the Conseil de la République , today's Senate .

Coste came from a peasant family and was involved in the formation of unions after the First World War . In 1921 he became deputy secretary of a farmers' union in the Tarn-et-Garonne department . During World War II , he and his sons, two of whom were killed, were members of the resistance . In 1945 he became mayor of his hometown Orgon. The following year he moved to the Conseil de la République for the Communist Party . After he failed in re-election in 1948, he again applied unsuccessfully for another mandate in 1955. Coste died in 1976.
