Roger Carcassonne (politician)

Roger Carcassonne (born June 15, 1903 in Salon-de-Provence , † November 28, 1992 ibid) was a French politician. From 1946 to 1971 he was a member of the Conseil de la République and the resulting Senate .

Carcassonne studied law in Aix-en-Provence and worked as a lawyer in his hometown of Salon-de-Provence. At the age of 20 he joined the SFIO . In 1931 he stood for the party in the elections to the General Council , but was only able to move into it in the following elections in 1937. In 1940 he resigned from his mandate after the occupation of France by the Wehrmacht . In 1943 he escaped arrest by the Gestapo , but was caught in Nancy in May 1944 . In the first elections after the liberation of France, he returned to the General Council in 1945. In 1946 he was the SFIO's top candidate in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the elections for the Conseil de la République . He was re-elected in 1948 and 1955. When the Conseil de la République became the Senate in 1959, Carcassonne could be re-elected. From 1959 to 1968, in addition to his political work, he also worked as a judge at the Supreme Court. In 1971 he decided not to run for the Senate again. However, he remained a member of the General Council until 1982 and was also a member of the Regional Council for three years . Carcassonne, who was a close friend of Gaston Defferre , was made a member of the Legion of Honor in 1990. He died in 1992.
