NK Celje is a football club from the city of Celje and plays in the first division of Slovenia . The club colors are blue and yellow. The team plays its home games in the Arena Petrol , which holds 13,400 spectators. Some other Slovenian clubs also use this stadium for appearances in the UEFA Cup or the UEFA Champions League, as it is one of the few stadiums that meets UEFA's international standards.

history

In 1919 the association was founded as SSK Celje. In 1946 it was renamed NK Kladivar. In 1991 the club was renamed NK Audience Celje. Since 2007 the association has been called NK CM Celje.

Along with NK Maribor and ND Gorica, Celje is one of three clubs that have been part of the country's top league since Slovenia's independence in 1991. Celje achieved his best placement in the 2002/03 season with second place.

However, the club celebrated its greatest successes in the national cup, where it reached the final eight times and in 2005 won its only title to date with a 1-0 win against ND Gorica .

Celje finally won the first championship on the last day of the Slovenska Nogometna Liga 2019/20 , a 2-2 win against NK Olimpija Ljubljana was enough to win the title. You are therefore entitled to start the 1st qualifying round of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League .
