Local transport in Gütersloh

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transport in Gütersloh consists of two virtually entirely separate bus networks, for urban and regional transport. The district town in North Rhine-Westphalia is closely connected to the city of Bielefeld due to its location in the direct catchment area . The Gütersloh main station is served every half hour by regional trains Bielefeld - Hamm . It is an IC stop and also has hourly regional connections between Münster - Warendorf - Bielefeld - Herford - Rahden ( RB ) and Minden - Bielefeld - Düsseldorf ( RE ). The central transfer point and the end point of all bus lines since 2008 is the central bus station (ZOB) directly opposite Gütersloh main station .

history

The city received its first rail connection in 1847 on the Hamm – Minden railway line operated by the Cologne-Minden Railway Company . This main line has had a branch line connection to Münster via Warendorf in Rheda since 1887 . Between 1900 and 1903 the branch line Ibbenbüren – Lengerich (Westphalia) - Gütersloh – Hövelhof of the Teutoburg Forest Railway (TWE) was built. Passenger traffic was stopped here in May 1977 ( Versmold - Gütersloh Nord) and October 1978 (remaining route to Hövelhof) - due to high losses that the authorities had warned for a long time . Freight traffic still exists on the entire route today. From June 1950, TWE also operated bus routes, so the former TWE Busverkehrs GmbH, which had been outsourced, developed into the most important bus operator in the Wiedenbrück district and later in the Gütersloh district until it was taken over by Veolia Verkehr . The Veolia Transport Ostwestfalen GmbH used after winning the tender for the line bundle South-West and South-East in the Gütersloh the familiar urban and regional brand-name "TWE bus". The public transport company of Stadtwerke Gütersloh was established in 1937.

Due to the enlargement of the urban area (especially as a result of the incorporation in 1973 through the Bielefeld Act ), several train stops belong to the city today. In addition to the Isselhorst-Avenwedde station, these are the former stations of the TWE route Blankenhagen , Gütersloh Carl-Miele-Str. , Gütersloh Sunderweg , Gütersloh Ost and Spexard .

The Stadtwerke Gütersloh GmbH participated until 2009 also on regional traffic. They served lines 43 to Halle - Werther and 87 to Ummeln - Bielefeld. (by placing an order with the private company still working for moBiel today ). In the urban area they developed a radial urban network with four diameter lines and initially single-digit line numbers. At the end of the 1980s they joined the Bielefelder Verkehrsgemeinschaft Ostwestfalen-Lippe (VOW), the predecessor of the Verkehrsverbund OstWestfalenLippe (VVOWL). As an OWL tariff association, however, the “VVOWL” was not created in mid-2000, but the “Der Sechser” tariff (today OWL Verkehr GmbH ).

In order not to collide with the Bielefeld lines, the municipal utilities put a “4” in front of their line names. Up until the network changeover in 2008, there was a clear route network with the following routes, mostly running every 30 minutes:

  • 40 : ZOB - Municipal Clinic - Drücker Siedlung - Heidewald School
  • 41 : Blankenhagen - Kahlertstraße - ZOB - Herzebrocker Straße - Hans-Böckler-Straße - State Hospital (every 20 minutes)
  • 42 : Friedrichsdorf , Adlerweg - Avenwedde train station - To Quiet Peace - Miele Werke - ZOB - Neuenkirchener Straße - Bettentrups Siedlung - Elisabeth-Hospital
  • 44 : Ohlbrocks Weg - Brockhäger Straße - ZOB - Sundernstraße - Eimerheide
  • 45 : Kattenstroth - Brockweg - Unter den Ulmen - ZOB - Elbrachts Siedlung - Auf'm Reck
  • 47 : ZOB - Westring - Herzebrocker Straße - Pavenstädt (individual trips, minibus )
  • 46 and 49 for school traffic in the direction of Auf'm Reck - Am Öhlbach or Ebbesloh

For line 42 in the direction of Friedrichsdorf, there was a cooperation with Busverkehr Ostwestfalen GmbH (BVO). At the ZOB there were direct connections to the half-hourly lines. There were already lines with 200 numbers in light traffic.

In 1998, two night bus routes were introduced that served the city districts as round trips from the central bus station . This provided a connection to the N11 bus line from Bielefeld. Due to low demand, the two lines were discontinued after a short time.

According to a study by the University of Applied Sciences Lippe and Höxter in 1999, the share of public passenger transport in total Gütersloh city traffic was only around 6% and was therefore hardly higher than the comparison value including the incoming and outgoing regional traffic (5%). The municipal utilities have tried several times to increase the number of passengers by expanding their offer (e.g. additional lines in the direction of Isselhorst and Sürenheide) (in the 1990s approx. 3.5 million; 1994 3.36 million, 1998 3.8 million). ), these attempts always had to give up quickly due to a lack of demand.

In cooperation with the city administration and in line with the valid local transport plan for Gütersloh, the network was changed in 2008. Now all city buses end at the central bus station, they have also been given new names (in a clockwise order radially around the starting point). The number of lines increased significantly, also due to school lines and a new evening and weekend network . Easily noticeable basic lines (201 to 209) are juxtaposed with many additional lines for regional, school and evening traffic (with 70s, 80s, 90s numbers and nine lines with names between 211 and 229). Due to the division of the continuous city lines, short trips in the inner city area, which were previously possible inexpensively with the short distance tariff (four stops without transfer authorization), became considerably more expensive if they went beyond the new end point ZOB (e.g. a trip from Miele plants to the old one Church Square).

Current line network

Railway lines

The train line RB 69 with a stop in Isselhorst-Avenwedde runs every hour every day, so Gütersloh has an inner-city train connection. The operator is the Eurobahn .

City bus Gütersloh

The city bus network is operated by Stadtbus Gütersloh GmbH - a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Gütersloh . For this purpose, a subsidiary (Stadtbus Gütersloh GmbH) was founded retrospectively as of January 1, 2017.

Regional traffic

The most important operators today are BVO and Veolia Verkehr Ostwestfalen GmbH . The lines were put out to tender and reassigned on January 1, 2011 in the Gütersloh-Northwest area and on January 1, 2012 in the southeast area. Previous operators were to Veolia belonging RegioBus Gütersloh GmbH (formerly TWE ) and the company Wittler & Voßhans GmbH (Schloss Holte).

future

A revitalization of passenger traffic on the branch line Harsewinkel – Gütersloh – Verl has long been considered. In June 2010, the Teutoburger Wald-Eisenbahn (TWE) issued a press release in which a permanent maintenance of its route is presented as not profitable for freight traffic alone. The existence can only be guaranteed if at least one section of the route is reactivated for passenger traffic. Thereupon the transport association made a commitment to support passenger traffic between initially Verl and Harsewinkel, later also Versmold and Hövelhof (with a connection to Paderborn). A financial participation in the operating costs on the part of the cities of Gütersloh, Harsewinkel and Verl as well as the district of Gütersloh is already considered certain (there are corresponding council and district council resolutions).

The fundamental decision on the necessary funding for the route expansion by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is to be made in 2016.

Since 2012, the city and municipal utilities of Gütersloh have been planning an extensive conversion of their bus system under the name “Das Schnell Netz”. The new line concept to be implemented in summer 2015 provides for faster access to the Gütersloh city center and greater clarity thanks to constant line routes on all operating days and times, without time-consuming loop journeys. A standard 30-minute basic cycle on working days is intended to enable reliable connections between all city and regional bus lines and with rail traffic at the main station at the central bus station. The political requirement for the new baseline network resolved by the planning committee on November 4, 2014 is that the new concept can be implemented within the framework of the previous subsidy requirement of approx. 3 million euros annually. A mobility working group for local public transport has been commissioned to further develop additional concept components such as marketing, stops and tariffs. Furthermore, negotiations are to be started with the district of Gütersloh about the connection of the Isselhorst district to the Isselhorst-Avenwedde train station with one of the existing regional bus routes.
