history
As early as 1753, the area of today's Newfane was released for settlement by the Governor Benning Wentworth . He named the area Fane after John Fane , the seventh Earl of Westmorland . However, the outbreak of the Seven Years' War in North America initially prevented the establishment of a settlement. Since a village was not established within the first five years after it was designated as settlement land, the right to establish a settlement was lost. Therefore Benning gave Wentworth a new settlement right for the establishment of a settlement New Fane . In 1766, families came from Worcester County , Massachusetts and settled in Newfane. They built a settlement on Newfane Hill, along with administrative buildings for the county. In the course of the 19th century, some representative buildings in the Victorian and Greek Revival styles as well as the Federal Style were built in Newfane , which still attract tourists to Newfane today.
