The Upper Treenelandschaft is a landscape in Schleswig that is spatially oriented towards the source area of ​​the Treene in the Schleswig-Flensburg district .

In 1998, a nature conservation association "Obere Treenelandschaft" was founded, which from 2000 was the sponsor of the major nature conservation project "Obere Treenelandschaft", which was completed in 2012 and continues to take care of follow-up projects and public relations.

Territory and landscape

The area of ​​the major nature conservation project Obere Treenelandschaft includes areas in the communities of Sankelmark , Freienwill , Oeversee , Großsolt , Tarp and Sieverstedt (with the district Süderschmedebyfeld ). The core area has a north-south extension of around seven kilometers and an east-west extension of 5 kilometers and covers an area of ​​over 2100 hectares .

A special feature of the area is the small-scale change between very different types of landscape. On the ground, end and push moraines fishing follow Sander Luusangelns . The Treene cuts its way into the surrounding landscape at Tarp , and finally at Tüdal (municipality of Eggebek ) it almost reaches the transition from the Schleswig Geest to the marshland of the middle Treene. Dry habitats (such as the dune on the Treßsee ) are close to wetlands and offer a home to a diverse range of animals.

Project implementation

The implementation and funding of the major nature conservation project was originally planned for ten years and finally ran from 2000 to 2012. 75% of the project was financed by the federal government, 15% by the state of Schleswig-Holstein and 10% by the private Kurt and Erika Schrobach Foundation financed. A total of 10 million euros were available. a. were used for securing the area through purchase and leasing, biotope maintenance measures, scientific research and for project management.

The project was managed by the Obere Treenelandschaft nature conservation association. Its board members come from the participating communities and from the areas of nature conservation, agriculture / property and tourism. The association has a total of around 120 members (as of 2003).

Upper Treeneland nature reserve

The major nature conservation project resulted in the planning of a nature reserve "Upper Treenelandschaft". On June 23, 2015, the state ordinance on the “Obere Treenelandschaft” nature reserve came into force. On June 29, 2018, Annex 2 was included in the ordinance, which defines the conservation objects and objectives of the two FFH areas DE-1322-391 "Treene, Winderatter See to Friedrichstadt and Bollingstedter Au" and DE-1322-392 "Forest , Moor and heathland landscape of the Frörup mountains and surroundings ”in the scope of the NSG Obere Treenelandschaft. The NSG has a size of 1674 ha.
