Until December 31, 2009, Oberramsern was a political municipality in the Bucheggberg district of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland . On January 1, 2010, the merger of the municipalities of Balm bei Messen , Brunnenthal , Messen and Oberramsern to form the new municipality of Messen .

geography

Oberramsern lies at 475  m above sea level. M. , 12 kilometers south-southwest of the canton capital Solothurn (linear distance ). The street village extends at the southern foot of the Bucheggberg , on the edge of the wide plain of the Limpachtal , in the Solothurn Mittelland .

The area of ​​the 1.8 km² former municipal area comprised a section of the Molasse heights of the Bucheggberg. The southern border ran along the canalized Limpach. From here, the communal soil extended northward over the intensely agricultural plain and the steep, densely wooded southern slope of the Bucheggberg ( Ramserenberg ) to the edge of the high plateau. On the Eggholz is at 640  m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Oberramsern. In 1997, 6% of the former municipal area was in settlements, 28% in forests and woodlands, 65% in agriculture and a little more than 1% was unproductive land. Neighboring communities of Oberramsern were Messen , Balm bei Messen , Lüterswil-Gächliwil , Aetigkofen and Unterramsern in the canton of Solothurn and Mülchi in the canton of Bern .

With 87 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2008) Oberramsern was one of the smallest communities in the canton of Solothurn. 100% of the residents state that German is their mother tongue (as of 2000). The population of Oberramsern was 127 inhabitants in 1850, 116 inhabitants in 1900. In the course of the 20th century, the population decreased to 85 people by 1990. Since then a slight population growth has been recorded again.

economy

Up until the second half of the 20th century, Oberramsern was a village dominated by agriculture . Even today, agriculture and fruit growing, as well as cattle breeding and forestry, have an important place in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades some families have also moved here, which has increased the number of commuters to the Solothurn and Bern regions .

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a connecting road from Lohn-Ammannsegg along the southern foot of the Bucheggberg to Messen . Oberramsern is connected to the public transport network through a post bus course , which serves the route from Bätterkinden to Messen, and the Bucheggberg on- call bus .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1276 under the name Rambsern , although it is not clear whether the name refers to Oberramsern or Unterramsern. In 1368 Oberramseron is clearly mentioned . The place name goes back to the old Swiss German word rams (bear garlic).

Since the Middle Ages, Oberramsern has been under the rule of Buchegg, which was part of the Landgraviate of Burgundy , acquired by Solothurn in 1391 and converted into the Bucheggberg Bailiwick. Until 1798 the high jurisdiction lay with the Bernese district court Zollikofen , while Solothurn exercised the lower jurisdiction with the place of jurisdiction Aetingen . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Oberramsern belonged to the Biberist district during the Helvetic and from 1803 to the Bucheggberg district. Effective January 1, 2010, Oberramsern merged with Balm at Messen, Brunnenthal and Messen to form the new municipality of Messen.

Attractions

In the center of the village there are some characteristic farmhouses with low hipped roofs from the 18th and 19th centuries. Oberramsern does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish of Messen.
