history
Settlement of the area began in the middle of the 12th century. The dike and cultivation of Ochsenwerders is documented from 1231. In the following century, Hamburg acquired parts of Ochsenwerders. The areas of Spadenland, Tatenberg , Moorwerder and Stillhorn have belonged to the Ochsenwerder parish at least since 1333 . On April 23, 1395, the city of Hamburg bought Ochsenwerder from the Count of Holstein in order to secure navigation on the Elbe in their interests. In 1686 Ochsenwerder was exposed to the Braunschweig-Lüneburg troops, who pillaged and plundered. Again at the beginning of the 19th century, soldiers passed through during the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon.
