Oliver Lafayette (born May 6, 1984 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana ) is an American - Croatian basketball player . After studying in his home country and starting his career as a professional player in Mexico , Lafayette was under contract in the NBA Development League for three seasons with interruptions, including a short stint in the NBA and an eight-week engagement in Serbia . From February 2011 Lafayette was mainly active for European clubs and achieved with his respective teams the title win in the Lithuanian championship in 2013 and in the Eurocup 2013/14 . In the 2014/15 season he played for the Greek runner-up Olympiacos Piraeus, followed by appearances in Milan, Málaga and Bologna.

Career

After leaving school at the Capitol High School in his hometown of Lafayette was briefly a student at Blinn College in Brenham ( Texas , where he) for the high school team Buccaneers in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association played (NJCAA). Finally, he continued his studies in 2004 at Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas , where he finished fifth in the national finals with the Lions College Team in Division II of the NJCAA and was named "Player of the Year" in Division II in 2005 has been. In April 2010, Lafayette received a "call-up" from the Boston Celtics, for which he completed his only game in the NBA. He scored seven points, which according to some statistical sources is the best performance for a player who only played a single role in the NBA. Before the beginning of the following season Lafayette was released from the Celtics and he began the following season 2010/11 with the Serbian champions KK Partizan from Belgrade , who also played in the ABA league . After rather moderate litter rates, Lafayette's contract was terminated in late November 2010 and he was replaced by Curtis Jerrells . Lafayette initially returned to the Mad Ants. After a commitment at Beşiktaş Cola Turka had broken up, Lafayette signed another contract in February 2011 in a league belonging to FIBA Europe . After progressing in the eighth and quarter-finals against the German representative Alba Berlin on the basis of a lead from the first leg, they won both games in the semifinals and in the finals and thus already the third title success for the club as the record winner of this competition. Valencia had done much better in the main round of the ACB League than in the preliminary and intermediate rounds of the Eurocup and went into the play-offs in second place with only four defeats in 34 games. Lafayette was named "Player of the Week" on Matchday 31 based on his effectiveness values . In the semi-final series of the play-offs they had home rights against the former runner-up FC Barcelona, ​​but after there were only away wins in this series, Valencia was eliminated from the national title with the last successful throw by Marcelinho Huertas in the final seconds of the fifth and decisive game .

For the 2014/15 season, Lafayette was signed by the Greek runner-up Olympiacos from Piraeus , with whom he will compete in the ULEB Euroleague 2014/15 in addition to the national league A1 Ethniki .
