The women's 100 meter freestyle competition at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was held on August 10 and 11, 2016 in the Olympic Aquatics Stadium . 48 athletes from 37 countries took part.
There were six preliminary runs. The 16 fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the two semi-finals, which will be held on the same day. The eight fastest swimmers in both semi-finals qualified for the final.
