Canada took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan with a delegation of 47 athletes, 29 men and 18 women.
It was Canada's eleventh participation in the Winter Olympics since 1924 .
Flag bearer
Figure skater Karen Magnussen carried the flag of Canada during the opening ceremony at Makomanai Stadium .
