Otto Bogislaff von Kleist (born December 15, 1744 in Wendisch Karstnitz , † September 28, 1818 ) was a Prussian major and Pomeranian district administrator.

Life

origin

He was a member of the noble family von Kleist from the Pomerania and son of Peter Georg von Kleist (1677-1765), imperial captain and lord of Egsow and Wendisch Karstnitz, and Hedwig Ernestine von Boehn from the house of Kulsow (1712-1761).

Career

Kleist joined the cadet corps of the Prussian Army at the age of 14 and took part in the Seven Years' War , especially the battles at Kay and Kunersdorf , and on January 12, 1761, he became an ensign in the "von Lindstedt" infantry regiment . On November 28, 1763 he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Guard in Potsdam . There he was promoted on March 13, 1768 to second lieutenant , on 7 April 1776 to first lieutenant . In 1778/79 Kleist took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . Due to health reasons, he graduated as major on October 13, 1781 and applied for care in 1786.

Over the years, Kleist was able to unite several property holdings in his hand. He was first issued on January 16, 1765 invested . On August 24, 1779 he got shares in Vilgelow and Reblin of the settled fiefdom of Chamber President Nikolaus Bertram von Below . On April 6, 1782, he came into the possession of Klein and Groß Dubberow, also through succession and inheritance settlement . However , he could not enforce the succession to Muttrin and Chub . Apparently, however, he was able to acquire Gross Quesdow . On March 5, 1788, he acquired the former Podewils property Battin and Krampe with the Carlsruhe Vorwerk .

In 1779 Kleist joined a Masonic lodge . In spring 1787 he was elected by the estates to the district administrator of the Belgard-Polzin district. He took his major exam on May 28 of the same year with Minister Joachim Christian von Blumenthal . He remained in the position of district administrator until 1806. In carrying out official business in 1798, he was considered extremely accurate with a love of order and righteousness . From 1791 to 1793 Kleist had a chapel built in Klein Dubberow, which was also to serve as a family burial.

In 1793 Kleist also fought for Gut Zuchow , but in 1797 had to give at least 1/4 of it to closely related feudal heirs of his family. For this he acquired Damen (b) with the Vorwerk Nemmerin on December 27, 1797 and in March 1798 also Damen (c) with the farms of Rauden , Hohenhausen and Kaltenhagen. In 1800 he sold Groß Dubberow, but on January 28, 1802 he acquired the Arnhausen fief with the Friedrichberg Vorwerk.

On April 17, 1786, he married Antoinette Josephine von Podewils (* 1757; † June 13, 1834), daughter of the Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 9 Friedrich Wilhelm von Podewils (* 1723; † September 11, 1784) and Eleanor Antonie Josepha Karoline von Woisky († before March 5, 1788). The marriage resulted in two sons and two daughters:

  • Friedrich Wilhelm Otto (* May 20, 1789; † May 16, 1855), heir to large and small Dubberow ⚭ October 13, 1808 Clara Juliane Amalie von Versen (* November 30, 1788; † November 4, 1861)
