Ernst Ludwig Otto von Zieten (born May 22, 1786 in Pasewalk ; † July 7, 1850 in Barsikow ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

He was the son of the later Prussian lieutenant general and governor of Königsberg Otto von Zieten (1747-1817) from the Brandenburg family von Zieten and his wife Marie Luise Amalie, born von Winterfeldt (* May 4, 1763; † January 16, 1831).

Military career

Zieten visited the cadet houses in Stolp and Berlin . From there he was transferred to the infantry regiment "von Tresckow" of the Prussian army on December 30, 1803 as portepeef ensign. As a second lieutenant , Zieten took part in the defense of Danzig and the battle at Bohnsack during the Fourth Coalition War and was awarded the Pour le Mérite order on June 19, 1807 .

In his application for the award of the order Pour le Mérite, General von Rouquette wrote on May 18, 1807: “Lieutenant von Zieten has as much presence of mind as he has enterprising intelligence. At the end of February 1807, as the enemy was taking the Elbingen and Marienburg lowlands from Marienburg, Zieten and 20 grenadiers were cut off between Marienburg and Dirschau in the Neuteich and Lissau area. The couple had two daughters: Friederike Luise (* 1818; † 1820) and Sophie Marie (* 1820; † 1846), who married the later Prussian infantry general Adolf von Bonin (* 1803; † 1872).

After the early death of his first wife, Zieten married Friederike Wilhelmine Emilie Sophie von Arnim (* 1798, † 1869) in Neuensund on February 20, 1823 . She was the youngest daughter of Hans Anton Joachim von Arnim (* 1753; † 1823) and Helene Caroline von Rieben (* 1768; † 1835). Only one son who died in childhood emerged from the marriage.
