Paul Taglioni
Paul Nikolaus (Paolo Nikola) Taglioni (born January 12, 1808 in Vienna , † January 6, 1884 in Berlin ) was an Italian dancer , choreographer and ballet master .
Life
Paul Taglioni, son of the ballet master and dancer Filippo Taglioni (1777–1871), comes from a family of dancers. He studied with his father and in Paris with Jean-François Coulon . On October 1, 1829, he joined the ballet company of the Royal Drama, where he performed together with his sister Marie Taglioni . In 1831 he choreographed his first ballet with "The Pages of the Duke of Vendôme" .
In 1847 he was appointed ballet master at Her Majesty's Theater in London . From 1849 he was ballet master at the Royal Opera in Berlin . The Taglioni family lived until 1853 in a house built in 1832 at Französische Strasse 32 in Berlin, the so-called Palais Taglioni , the facade of which has been preserved. From 1853 to 1856 Paul Taglioni was ballet master in Naples , from 1856 to 1883 in the same position again at the Court Opera in Berlin. From 1853 to 1874 he was also a regular guest ballet master in Vienna, which is why some of his works (music, libretti) are also in Vienna's libraries.
In 1869 Taglioni returned to his former place of work and worked as a ballet director until 1883.
Paul Taglioni died in Berlin in 1884, just a week before his 76th birthday. His tomb is located in Cemetery I of the Jerusalem and New Church Congregation in Berlin-Kreuzberg . His wife Amalie and daughter Auguste were also buried here, but their grave markings have been lost.
family
His wife Amalie Galster (1812–1881) and his Berlin-born daughter Marie Taglioni the Younger (1833–1891) were talented dancers. The daughter Auguste Taglioni (1832-1911) was an actress. Through his wife, Paul Taglioni was the uncle by marriage of Adele Garsò-Galster , Caesar Galster , Carl Galster and Georgine Galster .
