Petra Schürmann
Petra Schürmann-Freund (born September 15, 1933 in Mönchengladbach as Hildegard Petra Elisabeth Schürmann or as Hildegard Petra Susanna Schürmann or according to other information as Petra Hildegard Elisabeth Schürmann ; † January 14, 2010 in Starnberg ) was a German television presenter , program speaker , actress and former Miss World .
Life
Petra Schürmann grew up as the second of three children (older sister, younger brother) of the married couple Maria and Heinz Schürmann, initially in Wuppertal . Due to the war situation, she spent several months separated from her parents in Wechmar ( Thuringia ). Schürmann lived in Wipperfürth from 1953 . She studied theology , German , philosophy and art history in Bonn , Cologne and Munich with the aim of teaching at schools. In 1956 she was the first German to be elected Miss World in London after she had only finished third in the Miss Germany election in Baden-Baden . She resumed her interrupted studies after a short time, but never finished it.
Petra Schürmann came to Bavarian television in the 1960s and began a career as an announcer there. In between , she volunteered at the Münchner Merkur . She then moderated several programs for ARD and ZDF , including the Saturday Club , Traffic Court and, most recently, We in Bavaria . She was also active as an actress and book author . In 1967 Petra Schürmann's daughter was born, the later BR presenter Alexandra Schürmann-Freund . Initially, Petra Schürmann did not mention the father's name. It was about the doctor Gerhard Freund (1922–2008), who was married to the actress Marianne Koch at the time and had two sons with her. After the divorce from Marianne Koch, Freund and Schürmann married in 1973 and Petra Schürmann took the name Schürmann-Freund.
Due to the sudden death of her daughter in a traffic accident caused by a suicidal ghost driver in 2001, Petra Schürmann fell ill with psychoreactive language disorders and largely withdrew from the public. The director Heidi Kranz made a film about Petra Schürmann ( Petra Schürmann - Ein Leben, 2005), which shows her speechlessness, but also her joie de vivre and gives an insight into her life and the grief for her daughter.
She was unable to realize her plan to return to the screen as a talk show host . She also tried to come to terms with the death of her daughter by writing the book And A Night Goes By Like A Year . Since 2006, she and her husband have been living in seclusion on Lake Starnberg . In 2008, Gerhard Freund died of cancer at the age of 86 . Petra Schürmann died in 2010 after suffering for a long time and found her final resting place in the cemetery in Aufkirchen am Starnberger See at the side of her husband and daughter.
