In the World Cup , the doubles have won three races so far and achieved another 31 podium places. Until 2003, Popow also started in a single-seater.

Career

Pyotr Popov took part in international junior championships from 2000. At the beginning of his career he started in the two-seater together with Mikhail Trufanow and also in the single-seater. At the Junior European Championships 2000 in Umhausen Popow was 24th in the singles and at the Junior European Championships in 2001 in Tiers 18th in the singles. In the two-seater, he finished seventh and eighth with Trufanow. At the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Casies Popow managed to place twelfth in single-seater, but together with Trufanow only eighth and last place in doubles. Since the winter of 2002/2003, Pyotr Popow has been riding a two-seater together with Alexander Jegorow . On January 19, 2003, they contested their first World Cup race in Moscow and came second to last in eleventh place. Here Pyotr Popow also took part in a World Cup race in a single-seater for the only time and finished in 24th place. Two weeks after his World Cup debut, Popow achieved 21st place in the single-seater at the 2003 European Junior Championships in Kreuth and fifth with Jegorow in the double-seater. A further week later, the duo Jegorow / Popow started at the 2003 World Championships in Železniki for the first time in an international title fight in the general class and achieved tenth place out of twelve double-seater pairs. At this World Cup, Popow started in the single-seater for the last time and finished 23rd. From then on, he only started in the doubles-seater in international competitions. As in the previous season , Jegorow / Popow only took part in the World Cup races in Moscow in the 2003/2004 season . This time they finished sixth out of eight doubles. At the Junior World Championships 2004 in Kindberg , the doubles achieved fourth place and at the European Championships 2004 in Hüttau sixth place.

In the next two years, Pyotr Popow and Alexander Jegorow started in several World Cup races. In the 2004/2005 season they took part in four out of six races, each time they came under the top eight and thus finished eighth in the overall World Cup. In the 2005/2006 season they started in the first three World Cup races, achieved fifth place in Longiarü and Olang and eighth in Kindberg, thus finishing seventh in the overall two-seater World Cup. The two Russians achieved a great success at the Junior European Championship in 2005 in their hometown of Kandalakscha . With almost three seconds ahead of the Austrians Mario Schernthaner and Siegfried Truppe , the then 19-year-old European junior champions in the doubles were won. At the 2005 World Championships in Latsch , held a month before , they finished seventh in the doubles. At the 2006 European Championships in Umhausen , Jegorow / Popow achieved eighth place in the doubles. Since the 2006/2007 season , Pyotr Popow and Alexander Jegorow have competed in all World Cup races and celebrated their first and so far only World Cup victory on January 14, 2007 in Umhausen, when they were 16 hundredths of a second ahead of the Russian number-one double Pavel Porschnew and Ivan Lazarev came to the goal. Another podium place - third place on February 9th in Moos in Passeier - as well as a total of five places among the top seven helped them to fourth place in the overall World Cup and thus their best result in the overall standings. Pyotr Popow and Alexander Jegorow also showed their good form at the 2007 World Championships in the Canadian Grande Prairie , where they won the silver medal in the doubles, 1.42 seconds behind their compatriots Porschnew / Lasarew and also fourth in the team Russia II together with Julija Wetlowa Team competition were.

In the 2007/2008 season the duo Jegorow / Popow first achieved two seventh places, then came twice under the top five and ended the season with two third places in Železniki, which they finished fifth in the overall World Cup. At the European Championships in Olang in 2008 they won the bronze medal behind their compatriots Porschnew / Lasarew and the Italians Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara . In the 2008/2009 season , however, Jegorow / Popow remained without a podium. Their best result was fourth place in Deutschnofen , twice they came fifth and all other races they finished at least in the top eight. In the overall World Cup, they fell back to seventh place - just one point behind sixth-placed Christian Schatz and Gerhard Mühlbacher . At the 2009 World Championships in Moos in Passeier, the duo Jegorow / Popow finished fifth in a two-seater right behind their team mates Porschnew / Lasarew. In the team competition, Pyotr Popow and Alexander Jegorow - again with Julija Wetlowa as Team Russia II - came in eighth. At the beginning of the 2009/2010 season , Jegorow / Popow again achieved two podium places in the World Cup; they achieved third and second place in Novouralsk . After that, however, they did not make it into the top five in any World Cup races and only managed to improve by one place to sixth in the overall World Cup. At the 2010 European Championships in St. Sebastian , Jegorow / Popow won the bronze medal in doubles as they did two years ago in Olang - this time behind Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara and the Poles Andrzej Laszczak and Damian Waniczek . In the team competition this time together with Jekaterina Lavrentjewa they achieved fifth place for the first time in the Russia I team.

In the 2010/2011 season , Pyotr Popov and Alexander Yegorow only took part in the first two World Cup races in Novouralsk. They finished fifth and third and thus tenth in the overall World Cup. In the 2011/2012 season they started again in five of the six two-seater World Cup races of the winter, but only managed to improve to ninth place in the overall World Cup with placings between fifth and tenth place. At the 2012 European Championships in Novouralsk, Yegorov / Popow took seventh place in the doubles, while they were sixth in the team competition with Lyudmila Aksenenko and Stanislaw Kowschik in the Russia II team.
