history

In the Middle Ages, Plain belonged to the Radeck / Neuhaus court (and should not be confused with the Plain der Plainburg court near Großgmain in southwest Salzburg, later Oberplain ). Since the construction of the pilgrimage site Maria Plain from 1632, the village has been an important economic factor of the archdiocese, but has always remained small and rural. It has belonged to Bergheim since the local congregations were created. Since 1941, the West Autobahn (today's A1) has cut off the area from the city of Salzburg. Today it is largely a completely protected landscape area ( Plainberg , No. LSG00049 ), which ensures that the village is an agricultural and forestry natural area above the city.
