Pochwistnewo ( Russian Похвистнево ) is a city in Samara Oblast ( Russia ) with 28,169 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 160 km northeast of the Oblast capital Samara on the left bank of the Great Kinel (Bolshoi Kinel), a right tributary of the Samara, which flows into the Volga .
Pochwistnewo is administratively directly subordinate to the oblast and at the same time the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
The city is located on the southern branch of the Trans-Siberian Railway Moscow - Samara - Chelyabinsk - Omsk (km 1257 from Moscow).
history
Pochwistnewo was created from 1888 during the construction of the railway line Samara - Slatoust ( Samara-Slatouster Railway ), which was extended a little later to Chelyabinsk (opened in 1892) and formed the basis for the original route of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The name is derived from a family name that can be traced back to the 16th century in the form of Posvisnew . In the years 1902–1904, the station was expanded considerably, and the associated place began to grow.
In 1935 (according to other sources as early as 1929) it became the administrative center of a Rajon. In 1939, oil deposits were discovered in the area . In 1947 Pochwistnewo received city rights.
Since September 4, 1997 there has been a town partnership with Prenzlau in Germany .

economy
In the area, oil production is operated by Samaraneftegas ( Kinelneft area ). There is also a machine factory ( Awers M ) as well as companies in the construction and food industries.
