Unter Brüdern (working title: Ein Posten Kunst / Deutschland einig Vaterland ) is a co-production ( crossover ) from the TV crime series Tatort by ARD and Polizeiruf 110 by DFF .
The film was produced by WDR and DFF and broadcast for the first time on October 28, 1990. It is the 235th episode in the crime scene series and the 142nd episode in the Polizeiruf 110 series . Chief Inspector Fuchs investigates in his 81st case, Oberkommissar Grawe in his 28th and Chief Inspector Schimanski in his 26th case.
action
A naked man's corpse is fished from the Duisburg inland port. His tattoo turns out to be a former Stasi officer . For this reason, Schimanski and Thanner request administrative assistance from the GDR, which is currently in transition . Grawe and Fuchs reached the letter just as they uncovered hidden works of art for the Stasi. They suspect that the dead man was killed by the Stasi group Dürer.
Both travel to Duisburg and are warmly welcomed by Schimmi, Thanner and Hänschen. The dead man's wife, Mrs. Kröner, works for the art dealer Schrader. Schrader is clueless and ashamed of the GDR's procurement policy. His right hand is Mrs. Viola Bender. He wants to give up his business and has already given her everything.
Another suspect is Heinz Baier, with whom Schimmi clashed in the reception center at the beginning of the investigation. He has Vietnamese girls from the GDR VEB companies transported to Duisburg so that they can go to the streets for him. The investigators arrest him and the girls in a sauna club and send them back to East Berlin with Grawe and Fuchs. At the same time, their East German colleagues suggested that they should serve as bait in East Berlin to arrest the Dürer group.
They accept the offer and Schimanski and Thanner travel to Berlin disguised as wealthy business people. In the hotel they are already targeted by the head of security Holfelder. They get their first contact with the group with the LPG representative Dörfler, who under this guise would like to interest them in works of art. It gives both of them some comfort. But suddenly the group Dürer and Schimmi split and Thanner is offered a counter offer. This fails when the contact is shot in the parking garage. Another problem is a marriage fraud that Schimanski knows from Duisburg. Grawe can only take him out of circulation for a few hours. When Schimmi and Thanner accept an invitation from Dörfler, Holfelder learns about Schimanski's real identity from the marriage fraud. At a motorway rest stop in the GDR, the two investigators are brought to the meeting in a brick factory.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bender appeared in Berlin and supported Grawe and Fuchs with secret documents from their boss to clarify the case. Since Schimmi and Thanner are in danger, they direct the People's Police to the secret hiding place, which Grawe and Fuchs storm with the help of Service Unit IX . Dörfler, who has just been informed of the real identities, can just be prevented from getting rid of the officers Schimanski and Thanner.
After the documents cleared up the involvement of Schrader in the machinations of the Stasi, the latter has the daughter of Dr. Bender taken hostage in Duisburg to safely leave the country. Schimmi and Thanner look for him in hiding. Schimanski tries in vain to make the escape more difficult by letting the air out of the tire. But he is provided by Schrader's chauffeur and forced to undress. Schrader explains his situation to him, but when he wants to leave, Schimmi manages to get the daughter out of his power. Schrader has taken Thanner's car in an emergency and has no idea that the police are bugging him on the car phone. Police vehicles stop him on a bridge. Schimanski brings Dr. Bender returns her daughter, noting that she shouldn't teach her daughter her standards. Last but not least, the four investigators celebrate the successful conclusion of their collaboration in a bar with medals and alcohol.

background
Unter Brüdern represents a novelty in the history of the German television thriller, as it was a joint production of the German television station and the West German radio station and linked the series Tatort der FRG and Polizeiruf 110 of the GDR. The two opening credits were also combined, first showing part of the Tatort opening credits with music by Klaus Doldinger , then scenes from the opening credits of the police call with music by Hartmut Behrsing and then changing again and again. In contrast to the usual opening credits, the title Polizeiruf 110 was written out here as an exception; otherwise only the numbers 110 were displayed. This film was supposed to symbolize German unity for German television. It was one of the last television productions in the GDR, although it was not broadcast until three weeks after the German Unity Day . A year later, the police call episode ( Thanners new job , episode 153), referred to Unter Brothers again . In Thanner's new job , the last police call for the DFF, Thanner becomes the “Westimport” supervisor for his colleagues Fuchs and Grawe in Berlin.
Another crossover between these two crime series did not take place again in this form.
Others
In order to transport the secret and supposedly encrypted data to Berlin, the art dealer's assistant uses a notebook, apparently a Compaq LTE 286. Devices of this design were a novelty at the time and were not very common.
The title song Hand in Hand was the third song by Klaus Lage for a Schimanski crime scene.
