Race reports

1st run: Barcelona (Spain)

The 21st season of the Porsche Supercup began in Barcelona. A tight performance density was already apparent in the qualification. Out of 25 drivers, 21 were within one and a half seconds. Sean Edwards took the lead right from the start and won the first run in 2013. Behind them, a group of pursuers with Kuba Giermaziak , Michael Christensen and Michael Ammermüller fought for the podium. Giermaziak went off the racing line on the last lap while trying to overtake Ammermüller. Nicki Thiim and Ammermüller took second and third place. Guest starter Sébastien Loeb finished eleventh.

2nd run: Monte Carlo (Monaco)

Sean Edwards also started from pole position in Monte Carlo and won the race on the demanding street circuit. Towards the end of the race, the places behind closed up again and Giermaziak and Ammermüller fought for second place. The duel went out in favor of Ammermüller. Guest drivers from the rally scene, Sébastien Ogier and Sébastien Loeb, took 16th and 13th place.

3rd run: Silverstone (Great Britain)

Nicki Team won his first win of the season at Silverstone, starting from pole position. After just a few laps, he had built a lead. At the start, Michael Ammermüller was able to make up three places. On the seventh lap he passed Christensen and finished second. After finishing third in Barcelona and Monaco, Ammermüller is the only driver to have finished on the podium in all races. In the championship he was only four points behind front runner Sean Edwards , who finished fourth.

4th round: Nürburgring (Germany)

Nicki Thiim and Kévin Estre took second and third place in the home race for the Attempto Racing Team . At the start, Estre defended second place on the grid and Thiim went from fourth on the grid to third. Michael Christensen won the race from first place on the grid and Sean Edwards finished fourth. Nicki Thiim was at this point four points behind Edwards in 2nd place in the championship.

5th run: Mogyoród (Hungary)

With the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and 460 hp, Sean Edwards sat on top of the podium for the third time. Edwards extended his lead in the championship by 16 points as the closest rivals Nicki Thiim finished in eighth place and Michael Ammermüller in 14th place.

Round 6: Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium)

Kuba Giermaziak was the fastest in qualifying and started from the front of the grid, just 0.203 seconds behind title contender Sean Edwards. The race on the demanding course in the Ardennes was not decided until the 11th and final lap. At first everything looked like a sure win for Giermaziak, who had to bow to Edwards due to a technical defect. Edwards took second place ahead of Michael Christensen. Klaus Bachler won the race, his first ever victory in the Porsche Supercup.

7th round: Monza (Italy)

Nicki Thiim remained Sean Edwards' toughest opponent in the fight for the championship title even after Monza. With the victory from pole position and fifth place for Edwards, it was clear that the title decision would be made in the last two races in Abu Dhabi. Michael Ammermüller took second place and Kévin Estre, after a good race, came in third from eighth on the grid.

8th round: Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)

Before the last races in 2013, championship leader Sean Edwards had a fatal accident during private test drives at Queensland Raceway . Earl Bamber (champion in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2013) led until the last lap, but Nicki Thiim was able to overtake him due to a driving error and win the first final run. Thiim took over the championship lead, in the second final run a tenth place would be enough for him for the championship title.

9th round: Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)

In the final run, Nicki Thiim was in top form and won from pole position in front of his teammate Kévin Estre. Thiim dedicated his title to the late Sean Edwards.
