The Portland State University (also PSU called) is a state university in Portland in the US state of Oregon . With 23,117 students, it is the largest college in Oregon. Founded in 1946 , the college is part of the Oregon University System .
history
The Vanport Extension Center was opened in 1946 by returning veterans of World War II to enable higher education. The facility survived a flood and was relocated three times before it found its final location in Portland. In 1955 the college received four-year college status and was renamed Portland State College . When it was renamed Portland State University , the college received university status in 1969.
