geography

The village is located in northern Poland, about five kilometers south of Kętrzyn. To the east of Pręgowo is the two-hectare lake Zakraj ( Sakray ).

history

Today's Pręgowo was founded in 1426 as a civil forest . It belonged to the city of Rastenburg and had to deliver chickens and wood as taxes and keep a horse for the city. The renamed Prangenau occurred possibly due to a bailiff of Hans Prangenberg said. At the end of the 17th century, Rastenburg had to sell the village due to financial constraints. 1696–1723 the place was owned by Melchior Hippel (1657–1729, city treasurer of Rastenburg). In 1729 the first school was established in the village. In 1818 there were 23 houses in the village. In 1908 Kolde bought Prangenau from Ludwig Pohl , a soap manufacturer. In 1913, Christoph Laurer was named by Prangenau as the owner of the largest estate, with an associated area of 88.5 hectares. In 1935 there were twelve larger and six smaller farms in the village.

In 1945, at the end of the Second World War , the Red Army marched into the area. As a result of the war, the village became part of Poland and it was renamed Pręgowo . In 1970 there was a four-class elementary school in the village, a library point and a 30-seat cinema. In 1937 Pręgowo became the seat of a Schulzenamt to which the villages of Bocian , Turwągi and Wólka belonged.
