Wopławki (German Woplauken or Woplaucken ) is a village in Poland in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Kętrzyn (rural municipality Rastenburg ) in the powiat Kętrzyński .
history
In today's Wopławki, a battle between the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Teutonic Order took place in 1311 . Here the troops of the order under Heinrich von Plötzke (or von Ploczk ) defeated the army of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytenis . To the north of Wopławki there is a memorial stone to this battle in a small wood in the middle of a field. After the battle a castle was built which was the seat of a keeper from 1387 to 1389 . The originally Prussian settlement received Kulmer law at the end of the 14th century . An area of 51 hooves belongs to the village . In 1480 the associated area had grown to 60 hooves and the place received Magdeburg law . In 1745 or 1825 the von Schmidtseck family became owners of the property with an area of 1400 hectares , 340 hectares of which was forest. In the second half of the 17th century or in the 18th century, a manor house was built which burned down in 1806 or 1808 and was rebuilt between 1870 and 1880. In January 1945, at the end of the Second World War , just a few hours before the arrival of the Red Army , a group of refugees set in motion which was caught up by the Soviet troops shortly afterwards. Some German residents, including the landlady, managed to escape across the Fresh Lagoon . As a result of the war, Woplauken became part of the People's Republic of Poland as Wopławki . In 1970 the village had a 60-seat cinema and a library point. In 1973 the village became part of the Schulzenamt ( sołectwo ) Czerniki in the municipality of Kętrzyn. Today it is an independent Schulzenamt without any other localities.
