Wilkowo [ vilˈkɔvɔ ] ( German  Wilkendorf ) is a village in Poland in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Kętrzyn (rural community Rastenburg ) in the powiat Kętrzyński (district Rastenburg ). The village is the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo ), to which the villages Henrykowo ( German  Heinrichssorge ), Łazdoje (Laxdoyen) , Stachowizna (Rehstall) and Stadniki (Deinau) belong.

The village is located in northern Poland in historic East Prussia , nine kilometers southwest of the district town of Kętrzyn (German Rastenburg ).

history

The localization of today Wilkowo took place in 1369 with an area of 12 hooves . The locator Jan Kestenmacher had received permission from Winrich von Kniprode and, like the other residents, was relieved of all burdens for 15 years. In 1818 there were 25 residential buildings in Wilkendorf. From 1818 to 1945 Wilkendorf belonged to the Rastenburg district , from 1874 to the Laxdoyen district (Łazdoje in Polish).

In 1945, at the end of World War II , the Red Army marched into the area. As a result of the war, Wilkendorf became part of the People's Republic of Poland as Wilkowo . In 1947 there was a three-class elementary school with 50 pupils in Wilkowo, and a library was opened in 1950. 1954 to 1960 the village was the seat of a Gromada . By 1970 the school was expanded into an eight-grade elementary school. In 1973 Wilkowo, as part of the Kętrzyn municipality, became the seat of a school authority. Henrykowo (Heinrichssorge) , Łazdoje (Laxdoyen) and Marzenin (Mariendorf) belonged to the Schulzenamt .

Catholic

A church was built in Wilkendorf at the end of the 19th century. She was supplied by the parish Heiligelinde ( Polish Święta Lipka ). On May 24, 1937, a separate parish was established in Wilkendorf, which initially formed a parish association with Heiligelinde.

Today Wilkowo forms its own parish in the deanery Kętrzyn I in the Archdiocese of Warmia . The branch municipality Bezławki (Bäslack) belongs to it .

Evangelical

Until 1945 Wilkendorf was parish in the Protestant church Bäslack in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today the village belongs to the parish Kętrzyn in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

The village of Vilkovo is located on the 591 Voivodeship Road . This leads to 15 kilometers south at Mrągowo (Sensburg) in the country Straße 59 . In the north it leads eight kilometers through Kętrzyn and ends after about 35 kilometers at the state border with the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad . There is no border crossing point.

The place does not have its own rail connection. The nearest train station is eight kilometers north in Kętrzyn , where there are direct connections to Olsztyn and Poznan .

The closest international airport is Kaliningrad Airport , which is located about 110 kilometers northwest on Russian territory. The nearest international airport on Polish territory is Lech Wałęsa Airport, Gdansk, about 190 kilometers to the west .
