Michałkowo [ mixau̯ˈkɔvɔ ] ( German  Langmichels ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It is located in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ) and belongs to the Gmina (rural community) Barciany (Barten) .

Michałkowo is only one kilometer from the Polish-Russian state border in the northern center of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship , four kilometers south of the former district town of Gerdauen (now in Russian Schelesnodoroschny ) and 27 kilometers northwest of today's district metropolis Kętrzyn ( German  Rastenburg ).

history

The former long-Michels called rural community - and later Vorwerk for Good Kanoten (Polish: Kanoty , no longer in existence) - 1874 was one of five municipal units, the newly established District formed Kanoten. He belonged to the district of Gerdauen in the administrative district of Königsberg in the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1932 the Kanoten district was renamed the Posegnick district (today in Russian: Sori ), but remained in the previous district until 1945.

As a result of the Second World War , Langmichels came to Poland with southern East Prussia and received the Polish name form "Michałkowo". Today the village is a place within the rural community Barciany (Barten) in the powiat Kętrzyński of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (1975-1998 Olsztyn Voivodeship ).

With its predominantly Protestant population Long Michels belonged until 1945 to the parish of the Church Momehnen in the parish of the city today lies in Russia Gerdauen (Russian: Schelesnodoroschny) within the ecclesiastical province of East Prussia the Prussian Union of churches . The Catholics living in Langmichels were parish in the church in Insterburg (today Russian: Tschernjachowsk ).

Today Michałkowo is home to almost all Catholics . Michałkowo is the end point of the Polish Voivodship Road 591 (former German Reichsstraße 141 ), which continued to Gerdauen (Schelenodoroschny) before 1945 , is now lost in the border area. Coming from the southwest of Skandawa (Skandau) and Momajny (Momehnen) , a side street ends in Michałkowo.

There is no train connection. In 2001, the section from Korsze (Korschen) to Schelesnodoroschny (Gerdauen) of the Posen – Toruń – Korsze railway , which runs past Michałkowo to the west, was decommissioned.
