Suchawa ( German  Sausgörken ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Barciany (Barten) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ).

Geographical location

Suchawa is located in the northern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , 20 kilometers north of the district town of Kętrzyn ( German  Rastenburg ).

history

Local history

Sausgerken - after 1785 Groß Sausgörken , after 1820 called Adlig Sausgörken and written without additional designation after 1871 - was founded before 1484. In 1484 it was mentioned in a renovation festival. The area was probably old settlement land. In 1935, two stone axes and a flint ax were found here .

When the district of Skandlack ( Polish: Skandławki ) was established in 1874 , the rural community Sausgörken and the manor district Sausgörken were incorporated. He was part of the district of Rastenburg in the administrative district of Königsberg in the Prussian province of East Prussia . On September 30, 1928, the rural community and the manor district Sausgörken and the manor district Skandlack merged with parts of Jäglack (district Jäglack) to form the new rural community Sausgörken. Therefore, on April 8, 1929, the district of Skandlack was renamed “Sausgörken District”.

As a result of the war, in 1945 all of southern East Prussia - and with it Sausgörken - was transferred to Poland . Sausgörken received the Polish form of the name "Suchawa" and is now a place in the community of Barciany (Barten) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

When the district of Sausgörken was created, two communities belonged to it. It stayed that way until 1945:

Until 1945 Sausgörken was parish in the Protestant Church of Barten in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic Church Rastenburg in the then diocese of Warmia .

Today Suchawa belongs to Barciany with regard to both denominations - in the current Catholic Archdiocese of Warmia and in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Suchawa is on a side road that leads from Gęsiki (Meistersfelde) to Skandławki (Skandlack) . Until 1945 the place was a train station on the Barten – Nordenburg railway , which was operated by the Rastenburger Kleinbahnen , but was not reactivated after the war.

Trivia

The writer Arno Surminski (born in the neighboring village Jäglack ( Jegławki in Polish )) describes this part of East Prussia in his novels . He also often mentions Sausgörken.
