Szaty Wielkie ( German  Groß Schatten ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to Gmina Barciany (Barten) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ).

Geographical location

Szaty Wielkie is located in the northern center of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship , three kilometers northwest of the district town of Kętrzyn ( German  Rastenburg ).

history

Schatten , only called Groß Schatten after 1785 , was a small estate and until 1928 belonged to the estate district of Wehlack ( Skierki in Polish ) in the East Prussian district of Rastenburg . In 1820 Groß Schatten had 25 inhabitants, in 1885 there were 58 and in 1905 it was 60.

On September 30, 1928 Gut Groß Schatten gave up its independence and merged with Gut Albertinhausen ( Staniszewo in Polish ) and the rural community of Wehlack ( Skierki ) to form the new rural community of Wehlack.

As a result of the war, Groß Schatten came to Poland in 1945 along with all of southern East Prussia and was given the Polish form of name “Szaty Wielkie”. Today it is part of the rural community Barciany (Barten) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ), until 1998 of the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

Until 1945, Groß Schatten was parish in the Protestant church of Wenden (Winda) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic church of Rastenburg in the then diocese of Warmia .

Today Szaty Wielkie belongs to the Catholic parish Winda in the current Archdiocese of Warmia and to the Protestant parish Barciany , a branch parish of the Johanneskirche Kętrzyn in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .

traffic

Szaty Wielkie can be reached via a spur road that branches off at Skierki (Wehlack) from Voiwodschaftsstrasse 591 (former German Reichsstrasse 141 ) and leads directly into the village. There is no connection to rail traffic .
