Solkieniki ( German  Solknick ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Barciany (rural community Barten ) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ).

Geographical location

Solkieniki is located on the river Solke ( Sołka in Polish ) in the northern center of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship , eleven kilometers southwest of the former district town of Gerdauen (now in Russian Schelesnodoroschny ) and 24 kilometers northwest of today's district metropolis Kętrzyn ( German Rastenburg ). To the south of the village extends an area that was once called the Solke Forest and is now colloquially known as Koczta ( Las Koczta ) - in memory of a settler who lived on the edge of the forest.

history

The former Solknick - called Schwelgeninken before 1785 and called Sollknick after 1820 - was founded before 1472. It was a Vorwerk until 1945 and until 1928 belonged to Sillginnen ( Polish: Silginy ) in the district of the same name in the East Prussian district of Gerdauen . In 1905 Solknick had 84 inhabitants.

On September 30, 1928 Solknick was reclassified to the rural community of Laggarben (Polish Garbno ) in the Woninkeim district (Polish Wanikajmy ).

During the Second World War there was an ammunition depot near Solknick . To this day, numerous interested parties come here to look for remains - with or without a metal detector .

As a result of the war, all of southern East Prussia came to Poland in 1945, and with it Solknick. The village was given the Polish form of name "Solkieniki" and is now the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo ) in the association of the rural community Barciany (Barten) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then it belongs to the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

church

Until 1945 was Solknick in the parish of the Church Laggarben the united evangelical congregations Laggarben - Dietrichsdorf ( Polish Garbno-Dzietrzychowo ) in the ecclesiastical province of East Prussia the Prussian Union of churches and the Catholic Church of St. Bruno in Insterburg (Russian today Tschernjachowsk ) in the former diocese Parish of Warmia .

Today Solkieniki belongs to the Catholic parish of Skandawa in the current Archdiocese of Warmia and to the Protestant parish in Barciany , a branch parish of the Johanneskirche Kętrzyn in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .
