The Project 636 Warschawjanka ( Russian Варшавянка of the) NATO Improved Kilo and Kilo-II class called, is a Russian class diesel-electric hunting submarines . The boats of the project 636 are a further development of the project 877 Paltus .
history
Further development of project 877
From 1985 two boats from the project 877E ( E xport) were exported, the ORP Orzeł for the Polish Navy and the Delfinul for the Romanian Navy . Starting in 1986, eight Sindhughosh-class boats were built for the Indian Navy under the designation Project 877EKM ( E xport K ommerziell M odernisiert). In 1997 and 2000 the Indian Navy received another boat each, in which improvements (especially in the second boat) were introduced that go beyond the original 877EKM project. Nevertheless, they are usually not counted as part of Project 636 yet.
Project 636
In 1996 the Chinese Navy ordered two boats from Project 636 as its first customer. These boats are said to have the following improvements over Project 877:
- slightly longer (2 × 600 mm)
- stronger propulsion system for higher underwater speeds
- higher endurance in diesel operation
- Drive mounted on shock absorber
- improved electronic components
- improved sensors (including MGK-400EM sonar instead of MGK-400 "Rubicon" sonar)
- reduced sound radiation
- Ability to use anti-ship missiles of the type Klub-S
Orders
People's Republic of China
In 2002 the Chinese Navy ordered another eight boats of this type for around 1.5 to 1.6 billion US dollars, which were delivered by 2006.
Algeria
In mid-2006 Algeria ordered two boats from Project 636, which were delivered to the Algerian Navy in 2009 . In 2012 Algeria ordered two more boats, which should be delivered in 2020. The first of these two boats, the name of which is not yet known, was taken over by the Algerian Navy in October 2018, the second is to follow in late 2018 / early 2019
Russia
Due to the delays in the construction of Project 677 ( Lada class), the Russian Navy ordered six (according to other information seven) boats from Project 636.3 for the Black Sea Fleet as an interim solution . The first boat, the Novorossiysk (B-261), set out for test drives in May 2014 after being laid down in August 2010. It entered service on August 22, 2014. Construction of the following three boats, Rostov-na-Donu (B-237), Stary Oskol (B-262) and Krasnodar (B-265) began in November 2011, August 2012 and February 2014, respectively.
The new submarine brigade of the Black Sea Fleet is to be stationed both in Novorossiysk and in Sevastopol.
In September 2016, the Russian Navy ordered another six boats of this type for the Pacific fleet. Two of them were laid down in July 2017 and are scheduled to go into service in 2019.
Vietnam
The last customer so far was the Vietnamese Navy , which signed a purchase agreement for six boats in December 2009. The boats are referred to as Project 636M and 636.1 respectively. In November 2013 the HQ 182 Hanoi was handed over as the first boat . This and HQ 183 Ho Chi Minh City were put into service in April 2014. The HQ 184 Haiphong arrived in Vietnam in January 2015 , the remaining boats are to follow by 2016. The contract is valued at US $ 2.1 billion.
Russia will support Vietnam in setting up the necessary infrastructure and training the crews.
negotiations
Indonesia
Russia offered boats from project 636 for the Indonesian submarine tender in 2011, but was excluded from the procedure because the boats were "too big for an island nation". France with the Scorpène class , Germany with the 209 class and South Korea with the Chang Bogo class, a license build of the 209 class , remained in the competition. Indonesia finally decided on the Chang Bogo class.
Philippines
The Philippine Navy wants to procure at least two submarines from 2018 to 2022 and is negotiating a draft memorandum of understanding with Russia on boats from Project 636.
Venezuela
Russia has been negotiating with Venezuela since 2008 about the sale of initially three and later six submarines. The current status of the negotiations is unknown. According to the news agency RIANovosti Venezuela came after a meeting of Venezuelan President Chavez with US - President Obama in April 2009 of the negotiations back and earmarked for Venezuela boats were sold to Vietnam.
Retrofitting project 877EKM
The eight older Indian boats were upgraded to stand 877EKM + in Russian shipyards from 1997. In particular, the improved sonar of Project 636 (MGK-400EM instead of MGK-400), the Klub-S missile complex (NATO code name: SS-N-27 "Sizzler") and a type of battery developed in Germany but built in India scaffolded.
technology
The Project 636 is a conventionally powered submarine class with the same range of uses as the predecessor class Project 877 . This includes, in particular, fighting submarines and surface ships, laying mines as well as patrol and monitoring tasks.
hull
The two-hulled hull boats of Project 636 are teardrop-shaped. The water tanks for regulating the buoyancy are located between the two hulls. The entire outer skin is covered with a rubber layer, which should make it difficult to locate the sonar. There is a T-shaped tail unit at the stern, which consists of the downward rudder and the two down rudders. The front downplanes are foldable and are located in front of the tower at the top of the fuselage. The inner hull (pressure hull) is divided into six watertight compartments.
drive
The seven-blade propeller of the 636 project is driven by a 5,500 hp (4,045 kW) electric motor. This is fed by the batteries (120 cells each in the bow and the control center) when underwater, or by two diesel engines with connected generators for snorkeling or overwater travel.
A separate low-power electric motor is available for crawling.
Armament
The boats of Project 636 are armed with six torpedo tubes , which are arranged in two rows of three tubes one above the other in the bow. With the help of an automatic fast charging device, it can be recharged within five minutes. In addition to the six preloaded torpedoes , twelve more torpedoes can be carried, making a total of 18 weapons. Alternatively, up to 24 sea mines can be taken on board, which are also ejected through the torpedo tubes. The boats are able to use wire-guided torpedoes through two of the tubes. The boats of Project 636 can use calibrate cruise missiles . Four of these weapons, which are also ejected through the torpedo tubes, are usually carried in addition to 14 torpedoes.
The weapons are controlled by a modern fire control system.
Self defense
Sea-to-air missiles of the Strela-3 and Igla-M types are used for air defense . The boats also have a system for electronic protection measures .
