Cercado is a province in the eastern part of the Beni department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The province is one of eight provinces in the Beni department. It borders in the northwest with the province of Yacuma , in the west with the province of Moxos , in the south with the province Marbán , in the southeast with the department Santa Cruz , in the northeast with the province Iténez , and in the north with the province Mamoré .

The province extends roughly between 14 ° 00 'and 15 ° 00' south latitude and 63 ° 32 'and 65 ° 05' west longitude, its extent from west to east is 190 kilometers, from north to south 140 kilometers.

The population of the province of Cercado has increased by more than two thirds in the past two decades:

• 1992 : 63,128 inhabitants ( census )
• 2001 : 82,653 inhabitants (census)
• 2012 : 111,624 inhabitants (census)

43.3 percent of the population are younger than 15 years. The literacy rate in the province is 89.8 percent. ( 2001 )

99.1 percent of the population speak Spanish , 4.3 percent Quechua , 2.8 percent Aymara , and 2.4 percent other indigenous languages. ( 1992 )

The province of Cercado is divided into the following two municipalities (districts):

• Municipio Trinidad (1,774 km²) in the southern part of the province - 106,422 inhabitants ( 2012 ) - 60.0 inhabitants / km²
• Municipio San Javier (9,937 km²) in the central and northern part of the province - 5,202 inhabitants - 0.5 inhabitants / km²
