Radja Nainggolan (born May 4, 1988 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian - Indonesian soccer player . The central midfielder is under contract with Inter Milan and is loaned out to Cagliari Calcio for the 2019/2020 season. He was a Belgian international until 2018 .

Career

Nainggolan was born the son of an Indonesian and a Belgian and began playing football with Germinal Beerschot . In 2004 he moved to FC Piacenza in Serie B and was there for the first time in the professional team in 2007. In January 2010 he moved to Serie A at Cagliari Calcio . There he came on February 7, 2010, the 23rd match day of the 2009/10 season, against Inter Milan for the first time. He scored his first league goal on October 31, 2010 against FC Bologna . During the winter break of the 2013/14 season, he moved to AS Roma .

After five seasons in the service of the Roma , Nainggolan signed a contract with Inter Milan on June 26, 2018 until June 30, 2022 . After just one season in the service of I Nerazzurri , Tommaso Giulini, the president of his former club Cagliari Calcio, officially announced that he was returning to the Sardinian football club on loan for the 2019/2020 season.

National team

Between 2007 and 2010 Nainggolan was active for the Belgian U21 national team .

He played his first international match on May 29, 2009 against Chile . After consistently good performances at the club, he was invited back to the national team in November 2011 - over two years after his last appearance - and played in a friendly against Romania on November 11th .

At the 2016 European Championships in France , Nainggolan was included in Belgium's squad. He took part in all five tournament games and was always in the starting line-up except in the second group game. In the third preliminary round game against Sweden, he scored the decisive 1-0 shortly before the end. In the quarter-finals against Wales, he brought his team 1-0 lead in the first quarter of an hour, but the game ended 1-3 and Belgium were eliminated. For the 2018 World Cup , Nainggolan was surprisingly not nominated for the Belgian squad and then resigned from the national team.

Personal

After the death of Nainggolan's mother in 2010, he had two large wings tattooed on his back with their birth and death dates. He was raised Roman Catholic and is fluent in Dutch , English , Italian and French .

Nainggolan's twin sister Riana Nainggolan is also a professional soccer player. She currently plays for Res Romana, the women's team at AS Roma. During the European Championships in 2016 it became known that despite his work as a top athlete, he was a smoker.
