Ralf Edelmann

Ralf Edelmann (born February 15, 1968 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German painter , sculptor and art teacher .

Career

Edelmann first studied painting and sculpture at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig . As a scholarship holder he came to San Antonio / Texas in 1992 , where he studied at the Art Institute of San Antonio with Bill FitzGibbons and made numerous trips from there. From 1993 he studied with Georg Herold at the Städelschule in Frankfurt . After another stay abroad in Finland in 1995, he went back to Braunschweig, where he graduated in 1996.

Ralf Edelmann has lived in Vienna since 2005. In 2011 he started at the University of Applied Arts Vienna a teaching degree in the subjects of art education , technical works and textile design , which was completed in 2014 with a diploma. Ralf Edelmann has been teaching at the Evangelisches Gymnasium and Werkschulheim in Vienna since 2014 .

Ralf Edelmann works in various artistic media and techniques. His oeuvre includes drawing on paper, painting, sculptures mainly made with a chainsaw roughly out of logs, ceramics, as well as installation work. Common to all of Edelmann's works is an often subtle humor that is based on observations of social phenomena as well as puns, mix-ups and quotes from art history. His works tell stories and take media manifestations ad absurdum, which is often already reflected in the titles of his works.
