Basis of the UNFICYP

The Resolution 657 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that the United Nations Security Council at its 2928th meeting, on 15 June 1990 unanimously decided. The resolution noted a report by the Secretary-General that, given the circumstances , the presence of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) will continue to be essential for a peaceful solution. The Council expressed its desire that all parties support the ten-point resumption of intergovernmental talks and requested the Secretary-General to report again before November 30, 1990 in order to monitor the implementation of the resolution.

The Council reaffirmed its previous resolutions, including resolution 365 ( 1974 ), expressed concern about the situation, urged the parties involved to work together for peace, and extended the deployment of those established by resolution 186 ( 1964 ) Troop in Cyprus again until December 15, 1990.
